NBC Nightly News to offer extensive package on Joplin tornado

NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams has been able to bring something to the coverage of the Joplin tornado that none of his competitors has- a knowledge of the Joplin area.

That came in handy during his first day anchoring the newscast from Joplin, since he was familiar with many of the landmarks that are no longer there.

NBC News offered the following preview of today's coverage, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. locally on KSNF:

Brian continues his on the ground reporting from Joplin, Missouri, where the death toll has risen and many are still missing in the wake of the giant tornado that ripped the town apart Sunday night. Al Roker joins Brian with the latest on the storm's aftermath, Kevin Tibbles reports on the search for the missing and the stunning survival stories, and the Weather Channel's Mike Bettes keeps us up to date on another violent weather system bearing down on the area.
