Extreme Makeover to build seven homes in seven days in Joplin

(A news release from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition)

Today, executives with ABC’s Emmy-award winning reality TV show, Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition announced that the scope of the show’s upcoming build in Joplin will be one of the largest in the history of the wildly popular program.

Led by Southwest Missouri home builder Sam Clifton, president of Millstone Custom Homes, the October Joplin project will build seven homes in seven days for families who suffered losses in the May tornado that destroyed much of the city. The project is being developed with the goal of providing “anchor” construction that not only will directly benefit
families in need, but also can provide the foundation for rebuilding an entire segment of the city’s decimated housing stock. The weeklong Extreme build will take place in Joplin, beginning on October 19.

The show’s worldwide audience of millions of viewers will attract global attention to the city’s rebuilding efforts and to the profound character and resiliency of members of the Joplin community. The effort will
be a massive undertaking that - with the help of the HBA of Southwest Missouri and others - mobilizes between thousands of local building professionals, tradespersons, and volunteers to benefit multiple
Joplin families, and the overall community.

“When we heard of the extreme devastation in Joplin, it was beyond apparent that our team needed to join forces with the many other organizations and come help repair this city," said EMHE Executive Producer Brady Connell. “This will be our most challenging project yet and we will need the support of thousands of volunteers, businesses and community members to build seven structures in seven days. We are beyond
excited to play a role in restoring this great city!”

Clifton is the 2010 Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield Builder Member of the Year.

Millstone Custom Homes is also a member of the Home Builders Association of Southwest Missouri in Joplin. This is Clifton’s second time to lead a build for the popular ABC television program. In 2009, Millstone Custom Homes successfully led a southwest Missouri build project for that provided a new home for the Hampton family in Ash Grove, Missouri.

“Building these seven homes in seven days will be one of the most ambitious construction projects ever attempted in our area,” said Clifton. “We are thrilled to be a part of this massive undertaking. It will be no small task, but our team is eager to help rebuild Joplin in the aftermath of the devastation we experienced
in May.”
