The City of Joplin, in conjunction with the various groups and sponsors, is proud to announce, on this Sunday evening, September 11, 2011 in Joplin’s Landreth Park there will be a free 9-11 Tribute Concert.

On a day surrounding the 10th anniversary commemorating the events of September 11, 2001, and the honoring of the National 9-11 Flag, country singer Travis Tritt will perform a 9-11 Tribute for the Joplin community.

Travis Tritt will take the stage around 8 p.m. with opening acts Members Only and Livewire kicking the event off at 5:30 p.m. at the Landreth Park Amphitheater. The park will be open to the public at 4 p.m. with no admission charge and lawn chair seating.

The National 911 Flag, which will be the focal point of a sunrise service in Cunningham Park at 8:30 a.m. and day-long activities at MSSU starting at 10:30 a.m., will be brought to Landreth Park to be displayed during the concert featuring patriotic songs.

“This will be a fitting sendoff of the 9-11 Flag to conclude its last day in public before being sent for permanent display in the National 9-11 Museum in New York City,” said City Manager Mark Rohr. “We appreciate all of the partners to make this tribute a reality, especially the New York Says Thank You Foundation for bringing the flag to Joplin on the tenth anniversary of 9-11.”

Tritt has also charted more than 40 times on the Hot Country Songs charts, including five number ones — "Help Me Hold On," "Anymore," "Can I Trust You with My Heart," "Foolish Pride" and "Best of Intentions" — and fifteen additional top ten singles. Tritt's musical style is defined by mainstream country and Southern rock influences.

He has received two Grammy Awards, both for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals: in 1992 for "The Whiskey Ain't Workin'" and again in 1998 for "Same Old Train". In addition, he has received four awards from the Country Music Association, and has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry since 1992.

The public is invited to attend this free event. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Concessions will be available during the event.
