5:41: Stories from the Joplin Tornado featured in Show Me the Ozarks magazine

The book, 5:41: Stories from the Joplin Tornado, which I wrote with Carthage Press Managing Editor John Hacker, is featured in this month's edition of Show Me the Ozarks magazine, a free publication available at supermarkets and numerous other venues across the area.

The back page of the issue features a story written by John Hacker, who is a frequent contributor to the magazine.

Show Me the Ozarks was the first to publish a book on the May 22 Joplin Tornado. Unfortunately, some thought I was criticizing that book when I recently wrote about a book published quickly to take advantage of the tornado.

The book to which I was referring was one published a week after the tornado, a 24-page book claiming to be a survivor of the tornado, who did not put his or her name on the book, only initials, and described May 22 as a bright, sunny day with no one aware the tornado was coming.

Some of the comments on Amazon.com for that particular book questioned whether person was anywhere near Joplin when the tornado occurred.

The Show Me the Ozarks magazine tornado book was well done and informative.
