American Federation of Teachers supports Jason Kander

Rep. Jason Kander, D-Kansas City, continues to pick up endorsements in his campaign for secretary of state. The latest is the American Federation of Teachers. The following news release was issued Thursday.

The statewide American Federation of Teachers today announced their endorsement of Jason Kander to be Missouri’s next Secretary of State. Missouri AFT represents classroom teachers across Missouri and is an affiliated union of the AFL-CIO.

“Jason Kander understands the value of providing Missouri’s children a good education and has long supported the teachers that make this a reality,” said Scott Ciafullo, President of AFT Missouri. “As a state legislator, Jason Kander is a strong and consistent voice for public education and we are thrilled to support his candidacy to be Missouri’s next Secretary of State.”

As a member of the House Budget Committee, Kander supported the expansion of Missouri’s A+ program this year. The program provides a free two-year education at one of Missouri’s highly regarded community colleges to high school students that qualify by excelling academically and in their communities. With Kander’s support, the program will be available to an additional 4,000 students.

“There is no more important job state government does than help provide a first-class education for Missouri’s children,” said Jason Kander. “Having quality public schools starts with supporting the classroom teachers that are on the frontline of education in Missouri. I am honored to have the support of these teachers during this campaign.”
