(Latest rumor: Former American Idol contestant David Cook could be the mystery star. Cook, of course, is from Kansas City, which would make it a quick jump.)
Attention will again be focused on Joplin High School tonight when a mystery star performs at the annual Joplin Football Homecoming Dance.
The identity of the performer is being concealed so carefully by school officials that even Student Council members, who are responsible for planning the dance, have not been allowed to be at the venue while preparations are being made for the performer.
The performer is scheduled to go on at about 9 p.m.
Speculation is that it could be country crossover group Lady Antebellum, which does not have any dates between now and the end of the month after performing on Saturday Night Live last week.
The group was among those featured on a video welcoming back Joplin R-8 teachers Aug. 15. A see you soon message was deleted from the video before it was uploaded to YouTube.
