In a story broken today by John Hacker at The Carthage Press, officials from both hospitals confirmed that McCune-Brooks is the second medical center talked about by St. John's officials when they were outlining their rebuilding plans following the May 22 Joplin Tornado:
“It’s a great location,” said Kim Day, President of the Central Communities of Mercy Health Systems. “Carthage is a great location, it fits in that northeast corridor. It covers a lot of geography, it’s convenient for a lot of patients to get to.”
McCune-Brooks CEO Bob Copeland said the details are still being worked out, but Mercy wants to enter into a long-term lease with the city for Carthage’s city-owned hospital.
“The details have not been worked out yet, that’s what we wanted to come to the council and talk about,” Copeland said “But our intention is to enter into a long-term lease with Mercy.”
The council went into a rare closed session with Mercy and McCune-Brooks officials to discuss leasing property.
