Hartzler: Thank you, veterans

Fourth District Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler issued the following statement for Veterans Day:

Veterans Day allows America to pay tribute to our men in women in uniform who have sacrificed to keep us free. Since its origin as Armistice Day marking the end of World War One – at the 11th hour … of the 11th day … of the 11th month - November 11th has been a day for Americans to honor those who have served at home and abroad.

As the daughter of an Army Reservist, I learned the importance of this day early on in life. Now, as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, my respect and admiration for the defenders of our freedoms grow every day. The peace and security we enjoy today is the result of the selflessness of the patriots who have given up so much on our behalf.

As we honor the sacrifices and devotion of those have given to this country so admirably, we again say “thank you” to all the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces … and to their families who have made and continue to make sacrifices of their own. Our military heroes have done so much for us and their unceasing devotion continues. As Americans, we owe them a debt of gratitude we will never be able to repay.

On 11-11-11, we pause to say, “Thank you, Veterans. You will always be ‘Number 1’ in our hearts. May God bless you and may God bless America.”
