Progress Missouri blasts efforts to use Joplin Tornado to eliminate prevailing wage

Announced efforts by local and state politicians to eliminate the prevailing wage for construction projects caused by the May 22 Joplin Tornado are ripped in a news release issued today by the recently formed Progress Missouri group:

It’s just sick: Radical politicians in Jefferson City want to use the Joplin tragedy as an excuse to junk prevailing wage laws that protect middle class families.

You and I know this cynical power grab will do nothing to address the jobs crisis in Missouri, but that won't stop them from trying.

Instead of attacking middle class workers, we need our elected leaders to work together to restore balance in the legislature and rebuild communities ravaged by tornadoes and other natural disasters.

Take action today: Demand that your Senators and Representatives stop any attempt to exploit the Joplin tragedy for a political agenda.

Even conservatives have acknowledged that slashing wages for the men and women who are rebuilding Joplin hurts Missourians --- and helps companies who make their profits by cutting corners and busing in out-of-state workers. Rebuilding Joplin shouldn't be an excuse to give political payback to companies that aren't creating Missouri jobs.

Write your representatives in Jefferson City now.
