City of Joplin offers help to tornado-stricken Branson

(From the City of Joplin)

After hearing the news about tornados and severe storms hitting towns throughout southwest Missouri, including Branson, Joplin City officials reached out to their peers to offer assistance.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with our friends in Branson and other areas impacted whose lives have been affected by the storms on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning,” said Joplin City Manager Mark Rohr.

Holding the same position in southwest Missouri municipalities, Rohr and Dean Kruithof, Branson City Administrator, share similar responsibilities and are friends, so it was natural for Rohr to reach out to Kruithof this morning to offer assistance. In fact, earlier this week Kruithof had invited Rohr to attend a regional managers meeting to present information on disaster response.

“We contacted Branson earlier today to share our willingness to assist them,” said Rohr. “Thus far we have sent ten officers to assist the Branson Police Department, and we stand prepared to offer any other assistance to our neighbors if and when they call on us.”

In addition, Joplin City officials are contacting other cities impacted by these storms to offer assistance to them as well.
