Utah senator endorses Steelman candidacy

(From the Sarah Steelman campaign)

Today, Republican U.S. Senator Mike Lee of Utah, one of the leading "deficit hawks" in the U.S. Senate, endorsed Sarah Steelman in her race for U.S. Senator from Missouri. Lee, known for his record of fighting for fiscal responsibility and a balanced budget, endorsed Sarah for her strong record of fiscal conservatism and her commitment to getting spending under control and balancing the budget.

"Today, I proudly endorse Sarah Steelman in her race for the U.S. Senate," said Lee. "I believe Sarah will work hard to cut wasteful spending, balance the budget and bring fiscal responsibility to Washington, D.C. Sarah's record of fiscal responsibility as Missouri State Treasurer, and her commitment to conservative values and respect for the Constitution, show me she will be the fighter we need in the U.S. Senate. She's not afraid to stand up to the big-spenders in Washington, and not afraid to make the tough decisions that will ensure the future is bright for our families. She will fight for real changes and real reform. I hope the people of Missouri will send a strong, fiscal conservative to Washington by electing Sarah Steelman to the U.S. Senate."

Steelman welcomed the endorsement, and spoke of the ongoing momentum of her campaign.

"I'm proud to have the endorsement of a strong fiscal conservative and leader like Utah's Senator Mike Lee. Senator Lee has been one the strongest proponents for getting the government's spending under control and for balancing the budget, "said Steelman.

"As one of the leading 'deficit hawks' in the Senate, he knows that if we don't get our spending and budgets under control, the future for our families and our country will not be good. I couldn't agree more, and appreciate his support and endorsement."

This endorsement comes on the heels of the latest independent poll showing Sarah with a strong lead over fellow primary opponents Congressman Todd Akin and John Brunner.
