A status report filed today in U. S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas indicates attorneys for Branson-based Kanakuk and its CEO Joe White cannot agree with plaintiffs' attorneys on a date for the trial of a lawsuit brought by the family of one of former Camp Director Pete Newman's underage sex abuse victims.
Attorneys for the sex abuse victim said they wanted a trial date between June 1 and Aug. 11, 2013, to enable the boy, to finish his junior year in high school and have time to rest before his senior year.
Kanakuk officials say that time frame is not good for them, since they have to train camp counselors and run the camp between May 18 and Aug. 31.
They did concede that an Aug. 5 trial date would be possible, giving the boy a one-week break before his senior year if the trial lasts the predicted two weeks.
