Newsmakers program to focus on Joplin sirens, weather radios

Discussion about the City of Joplin’s storm siren policies and the City’s efforts to make weather alert radios available to citizens will be featured during an upcoming edition of “Newsmakers”, an interview program produced by KGCS-TV.

Joplin Fire Chief Mitch Randles and Emergency Manager Keith Stammer explain revisions in siren policies and updates to the system during the 30-minute program.  They also provide background on the use of the weather radios, which are being offered to citizens as a result of contributions received from the Joplin Tornado First Response Fund. 

The program also includes information from Missouri Southern about storm warnings and emergency notification on campus, with interviews recorded by MSSU students featuring campus Police Chief Ken Kennedy and Craig Richardson, Coordinator for Fire Safety and Environmental Health on campus.

Newsmakers will air throughout the upcoming weeks, including the following times:

Thursday, March 15 – 6:30 p.m.
Sunday, March 18 – 5:30 p.m.
Monday, March 19 -5:30 p.m.
Tuesday, March 20 – 9:30 p.m.
Wednesday, March 21 – 5:30 p.m.

KGCS programming may be seen over the air on digital channel 22 and on regional cable television systems including Cable One, Mediacom and Suddenlink.  The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
