The day the First Amendment died at MSSU

It was great timing for the release of this video praising former Missouri Southern State University Publications Adviser T. R. Hanrahan.

Most of the material on the video comes from the day a protest in Hanrahan's honor was held on the MSSU campus.

Hanrahan was fired despite a record which included being named the top college journalism adviser in Missouri in 2010 by the Missouri College Media Association and having the student, Brennan Stebbins, who won the Journalist of the Year Award last year. The firing came after Chart reporters were dogged in their pursuit of stories about ineptitude in the administration of University President Bruce Speck.

Hanrahan, Stebbins and another former reporter from MSSU's campus newspaper, The Chart, were featured speakers this weekend at the annual MCMA Convention in St. Joseph.

Though journalism has apparently gone in a different direction this year, it is obvious from the reactions at the end of this video that Hanrahan's contributions are not going to be forgotten.
