Secretary of state candidate backs "Don't Say Gay" bill

It's time to get back to the three R's, secretary of state candidate Shane Schoeller, R-Willard, said, in an article posted today on the Springfield News-Leader website.

Schoeller said he was not asked to co-sponsor HB 2051, Rep. Steve Cookson's "Don't Say Gay" bill, prohibiting classroom discussion of sexual orientation, but that he supports the bill.

“I think it’s important we stick to the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic,” Schoeller said, adding that schools “should not be teaching a social agenda.”
