Veteran political observers: Munzlinger endorsement cinches it for Brunner

It's a game changer.

State Sen. Brian Munzlinger has endorsed John Brunner for the GOP nomination for U. S. Senate. Veteran political observers think Munzlinger's endorsement could tilt the field toward the businessman.

One veteran observer, under condition of anonymity, told The Turner Report, "If this race comes down to one vote, this will put Brunner over the top. Brian will vote for him and his wife will, too."

"I'm not so sure about that," another veteran observer sitting nearby said, calmly dunking a donut in his steaming hot cup of coffee. "It depends on what kind of mood she's in that day. She may vote for Todd Akin. What kind of doughnut falls apart in a cup of coffee?"

"There's already enough munzlinging in this race," the first veteran observer said. "Did you hear what Sarah Steelman said about Brunner's daughter."

"That's mudslinging," I said, "and what did she say about Brunner's daughter?"

The veteran political observer looked at me with disgust and said, "How the hell should I know? You're the blogger."

The second veteran political observer said, "Can I have another doughnut?"

Brunner's news release is printed below.

State Senator Brian Munzlinger (R-18) today endorsed John Brunner’s candidacy for the U.S. Senate. Sen. Munzlinger joined John Brunner during a campaign stop at the Mark Twain Dinette in Hannibal where he made the announcement.

As a small business owner and chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Food Production, and Outdoor Resources Committee, Sen. Munzlinger knows John Brunner’s decades of experience leading a family-owned manufacturing company gives him the expertise desperately needed in Washington, D.C.

“With burdensome federal mandates, a stagnant economy, and out-of-control deficit spending, we need a leader in Washington who will bring commonsense, conservative principles to the Senate,” said Sen. Brian Munzlinger. “With my experiences as a small business owner and as the chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, I know first-hand the struggles and difficulties facing both small business owners and farmers. I proudly endorse John Brunner for U.S. Senate because he has the job-creating expertise we so desperately need in Washington. In fighting to repeal burdensome federal mandates that are crippling our small business owners and supporting pro-growth policies, he’ll be a leader for Missouri’s farmers and small business owners.”

Senator Munzlinger is proud to add his support to that of fellow Missouri agricultural leaders such as Katie Smith, former Director of the Missouri Department of Agricultural; Keith Witt, former President of the Missouri Corn Growers Association; Dale Ludwig, President and CEO of the Missouri Soybean Association; and Scott Hays, Chairman of the Missouri Pork Association. Brunner has also earned the endorsement of several agribusiness organizations including the John Deere PAC, the Missouri Soybean Association PAC, and the Missouri Pork Association.

“I am honored to have earned Senator Munzlinger’s endorsement,” said Republican U.S. Senate Candidate John Brunner. “Senator Munzlinger is a leader in the Missouri Senate who tirelessly works to promote pro-growth legislation that helps our farmers and small business owners succeed. As Missouri’s next citizen-senator in the U.S. Senate, I will fight against EPA, FDA, and Department of Labor regulations that limit the success of Missouri's farmers and ranchers and work vigorously to open new markets for American farm products.”
