(From the City of Joplin)

Joplin, Missouri has been selected as one of the communities to host the AMERICAN IDOL SMALL TOWN AUDITION BUS TOUR. The tour will stop in Joplin’s Landreth Park on Wednesday, August 22, 2012. Auditions will be conducted between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

According to the American Idol production guidelines, potential contestants will not be allowed to start lining up until 8 a.m. on Wednesday. The one-day auditions will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 4 p.m.
Contestants must be between the ages of 15 and 28, and anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Brain Flach, producer for Season 12, explained the process for potential contestants, “Auditions will be done in front of the show’s producers and none of the celebrity judges will be present for the Joplin auditions.” He also added that the auditions take place in three phases, “We first verify the contestant’s age, then there is the audition itself, and finally, if selected, there is required paperwork before a contestant can move on to the live show.”
In keeping with American Idol’s guidelines and Joplin City ordinances, there will be no overnight parking and no overnight camping allowed in Landreth Park.
Participants will be directed to park on the east side of Landreth Park, by following Landreth Street to the grassy hill area. This location is similar to parking areas used for July 4th or Boomtown Days events held in the park. There will be no parking along Murphy Boulevard or any side streets.
