Benefit talent show set for December 1 at East Middle School

Joplin High School senior Hannah Cady, shown singing lead during Sound Dimension's performance of the Beatles' "Let It Be" at this week's Academic All-Stars ceremonies, will be one of the featured entertainers during a benefit talent show scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, December 1, in the East Middle School commons area.

The show, which has been a fixture at the former South and now East middle schools since 2008, is back this year after not being held last year due to the Joplin Tornado. This year's proceeds will go to the EMS Student Council to buy toys, which will then be given to the Joplin Fire Department to give to underprivileged children in Joplin.

Miss Cady and her family will perform, along with the nationally known Joplin-based gospel group the Victorymen, country/rock/oldies group Natural Disaster, the EMS Band, JEMS Show Choir, EMS Cheerleaders, and various acts by EMS students, teachers, and former students of East and South.

A silent auction will be held with numerous Christmas gift baskets. Close to two dozen have already been lined up.

A concession stand will be open. Cost of admission is $1.
