Missouri Democratic Party rose to the challenge

(From the Missouri Democratic Party Chairman Mike Sanders)

The Missouri Democratic Party rose to the challenge in the 2012 election cycle, with victory in five of six statewide races on the ballot. This electoral success shows the Party is alive and well, even when Republicans outnumbered Democrats at the polls and Mitt Romney carried the state.
We congratulate Senator Claire McCaskill, Governor Jay Nixon, Treasurer Clint Zweifel and Attorney General Chris Koster on their re-elections, as well as Secretary of State Elect Jason Kander. We commend Susan Montee on a race well run. A slate of strong, experienced candidates proved to be the difference in this election cycle.
The strength of the Party and its candidates was demonstrated by Senator McCaskill and Governor Nixon carrying the two Republican strongholds of Greene and St. Charles counties. This is evidenced even more by the fact that Mitt Romney carried both of these counties by more than 20 points.
Our candidates ran and executed strategic campaigns that highlighted the clear differences between their opponents. The statewide grassroots organization that was assembled in the spring proved to bring our candidates to victory. With over 7 million phone calls, more than 2 million doors knocked and 20,000 active volunteers across the state, the Party proved the power of a precisely executed ground game.
Missourians can be confident we are moving forward, united and fighting for our states hard working families.  From the beginning, this has been about bringing people together to make sure Missouri continues to move in the right direction.
