Nixon: Today, we're back to work

(Letter from Gov. Jay Nixon to his supporters)

Last night was a great victory for our campaign and our state.  And we couldn’t have done it without you -- and all the time, dedication and resources you committed to this race.

The people of Missouri spoke loud and clear: they want independent, experienced leaders who bring people together to get things done, leaders who put the common good above the petty politics often divides us.

Over the past four years, I’m proud of what we’ve achieved by working across the aisle: balancing the budget, reviving Missouri’s proud auto industry, and bringing our unemployment rate at a four-year low.   But as I’ve said time and again these past few months: we’ve come a long way, but we’re not done yet.

So last night, we celebrated – but today we are back to work.  Together, we must unlock a new age of discovery and innovation to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex world, and prepare our children to compete in this new world economy.  And we must summon, as President Lincoln said, the “better angels of our nature” to make us a more tolerant people, a more welcoming people.

With your help, I will continue to work each and every day to make Missouri the best place in the nation to live, work and raise a family.

Thanks again for your support, your trust and your time – and for giving me the great honor to continue serving the state that I love.

Gov. Jay Nixon
