Ed Emery on sovereignty: I know more about the Constitution than you do

In this campaign issue video from last year, Sen. Ed Emery, R-Lamar, explains his beliefs on state sovereignty. Emery, of course, is the sponsor of SB 119, which would create s state sovereignty commission. I wrote about this bill in the Jan. 9 Turner Report, noting that sovereignty commissions were the method used by southern states in an effort to keep Jim Crow laws during the 1950s and 1960s.

 I wrote the following:

 A state sovereignty commission seems to be just another idea to protect those who have from those who have not, At a time when this state and this country should be looking to improve the standing of its poorest citizens (and those who come to this country chasing the American dream), there are those who want to return us to the genteel lily white days of the ‘50s, when those who did not look like Ed Emery knew their place.

Emory Melton knows more about the constitution than does Ed Emery, and understands it.
