Newman: Nixon did the right thing by vetoing gun bill

In a portion of her weekly newsletter, Rep. Stacey Newman, D-St. Louis, praises Gov. Jay Nixon's veto of HB 436, but says there is work still left to be done to prevent an override.
On July 5th, he did the right thing and soundly vetoed what has been nationally called the "most extreme gun bill in the nation".  HB436 is blatantly unconstitutional and will certainly face state and federal court challenges if overridden on Veto Day, September 11th.  HB436 would nullify all federal gun laws, criminalize law enforcement who try to enforce them and allow certain teachers to bring guns into our schools.
However, we still have work to do to convince the House and Senate to stand firm with the Governor and those with common sense.
