U. S. Attorney asks for Tulsa doctor to be held without bond

A federal grand jury today indicted Dr. Shelby Coleman, Tulsa, on child pornography charges.

Coleman was arrested earlier this week when the 16-year-old boy he was meeting for sex turned out to be from the Missouri Highway Patrol. Coleman had told the boy he wanted to ride with him naked in his Porsche. (The affidavit filed detailing Coleman's alleged crimes can be found at this link.)

Coleman is an obstetrician and pediatrician at the Tulsa Women's Health Clinic.

The U. S. Attorney filed a motion today asking that Coleman be kept behind bars while awaiting trial, offering the following reasons:

On September 28, 2013, the defendant was arrested after attempting to meet a 16 year-old minor at a hotel room to engage in illicit sexual conduct.  Prior to his arrest, the defendant successfully persuaded the minor victim to transmit sexually explicit photographs of himself to the defendant.

The defendant confessed to not only the above-described crimes, but also to sexually assaulting three other minor males. The defendant also acknowledged that he received child pornography via the internet and masturbated to said material.  Some of the imagery depicted children younger than 12 years of age.  The defendant further admitted that his sexual preference was for minor males.

This case involves a minor victim.

The evidence against the defendant is overwhelming.

Coleman has hired Springfield attorney Teresa Grantham of Carver, Cantin, and Grantham to represent him.

FYI...Dr. Coleman was not a pediatrician at all. He was an OBGYN. I know this for a fact because he was my doctor while I was pregnant. Regardless of what he may have done, I have nothing but great things to say about him, and wish him nothing but the best!

Yes, he was an OBGYN only. But please how would you feel if your under aged child would be inappropriately touched by him? He is a pedophile. I hope he will have to serve jail time. His career is done anyway!
