Joplin School District seeking Assistant Network Administrator

My favorite part in the Joplin R-8 School District's advertisement for a new assistant network systems administrator is the last qualification listed.

"Not afraid to take on tasks that you have received no formal training on."

This person will obviously fit in most of the other people who are in administration in the Joplin R-8 School District. Many of them are not qualified to serve in the positions in which they are currently serving.

Responsibilities will include network & server monitoring, maintenance and upgrades, performance tuning, virtualization, system backups and documentation.  Other duties such as email administration, internet security, antivirus administration and new server implementation are also included.

A successful candidate will have:
  • Understanding of Network wiring standards and methods.
  • In-depth knowledge of Network hardware and switching/routing methods.
  • In-depth knowledge of Wireless Networking.
  • Ability to use Cisco IOS.
  • Knowledgeable on vmware environments.
  • The ability to resolve network connectivity problems due to both hardware and software related issues.
  • The ability to diagnose and repair hardware and software failures on both Windows and Macintosh Computers.
  • High level of knowledge about windows server systems.
  • The ability to read, analyze and interpret technical documentation and manuals.
  • The ability to write reports and routine business correspondence
  • Good understanding of Microsoft Windows operating systems.
  • Good understanding of Macintosh operating systems.
  • Not afraid to take on tasks that you have received no formal training on.

Is this yet another new job or are the rats fleeing the sinking ship? I got my tax statement last week and it was much higher than I expected. I work hard for my money. I resent having R8 waste it. I'm definitely an unhappy patron!

It's a real job but it's hard to find a qualified person when you don't want to pay the market rate.
