Meet the Joplin R-8 Career Pathways Coordinators- $400,000 a year

If I am understanding the Joplin R-8 School District's Career Pathway plan, students going into the high school have a choice of five pathways. Apparently, there is so much work in designing this program, that the taxpayers had to foot the bill for six coordinators, one for each pathway and one to coordinate the coordinators. In the accompanying Jet 14 video, you can meet the Career Pathways coordinator and judge for yourself how well your tax money is being spent. The cost, by the way, for these coordinators, is approximately $400,000 a year. Please feel free to leave comments.

So my soon to be incoming Freshman will be asked to choose a career pathway? I'm not sure he can choose which shirt to wear, let alone choose what he wan't to do after High School. Opportunity to change their minds, what does that mean exactly? Are the students still going to get the general prepare for college track, or are they going to be forced to choose a pathway just to have one selected? There are lots of quesitons here to be explored, has Joplin schools offered anything to inform patrons of this play or is it just going to happen and we are supposed to be thankful for them deciding for us? My decision may be to path my be to choose a pathway for my kids to attend another school district.

I didn't want this but no one asked me. I want my kids to go back to books. Sick of all the new ideas. My last one will NOT attend Joplin after this year. It'll be TJ or College Heights for us.

They took the video down?!? Are they afraid of people seeing the truth? I doubt anyone would have gotten the truth from anything coming from the district. Maybe they're more afraid of having the digressions from the truth pointed out.

Watched it. Hate it. Don't. Want. To. Do. It.

How is spending less time in regular classes and more time playing soft skills going to help anyone. The sappy music doesn't cover up that they just aren't learning much on their tests. Wish I had rebuilt somewhere else.

What qualifications do these people have? Have they done this before somewhere? What makes them worth 400 grand in taxes every year? It would take ten or more teachers to equal that kind of cash.

When do they get around to the three Rs? I bet she destroys learning at the high school like she did grade school. The kids could graduate and never have a spelling test, not know the multiplication table, or how to sign their names on official papers like loans and titles. This isn't an education. This is all day recess.

Any time I need a laugh I know exactly where to go. The turner report to see who's been exposed for something or other. I just wish this was funny. Thanks for the coverage anyway.

They don't know a darned thing now. They can't even tell time in a freaking analog clock. They just know how to push buttons.

Why can't the 21st century have books?

I know of very few people who end up working in their Degree field, let alone one who made the determination of a career path in High School. The one thing I will double dog guarantee you is that a large portion of JHS graduates will end up taking a lot of remedial classes during their first year of college.
