Man charged in Granby woman's shooting death arrested for second DWI in four months

The Joplin Police Department arrested Windell Daniels, 31, Joplin, Saturday on a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, the second DWI for Daniels in less than four months.

Daniels' two DWI charges come after his arrest for involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action in connection with the July shooting death of Kelly Jean Crawford, 24, Granby. His latest hearing in that case is scheduled for 9:05 a.m. Thursday before Judge Richard Copeland.

Daniels was initially cited for second degree assault and armed criminal action after the shooting, which took place at a home on County Road 10 in the eastern part of Jasper County. The charges were upgraded after Ms. Crawford’s death.
Investigators believe Daniels handled a handgun improperly causing it to accidentally fire, hitting Ms. Crawford in the back of the head.

Daniels' first DWI occurred on October 29 when he was picked up by the Joplin Police Department. Daniels refused to submit to a blood alcohol test.

Shortly after that, Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney Dean Dankelson filed a motion to revoke Daniels' $15,000 bond. Online court records indicate four hearings have been scheduled and rescheduled in Judge Richard Copeland's court for that motion, which was originally filed November 6.

Daniels' driver's license was taken from him following the October 29 arrest, but was returned to him after attorney Jared Stilley filed a petition for review of the decision November 26 in Jasper County Circuit Court.

Court records indicate Judge Copeland issued a stay on the order revoking Daniels' driver's license. A hearing was scheduled for Jan. 24, but was rescheduled for March 21. In the meantime, Daniels picked up another DWI.

The DWI came three days after a hearing on Daniels' first DWI was rescheduled by Judge Stephen Carlton, the second time it has been rescheduled. That hearing is now set for March 5.

Why dont we let him out, so he can kill someone else... Sounds like a very good idea... Right..Dumbass..I happen to be a very good friend of Kelly's mom. Wasn't drinking involved in her killing... Let lock him up and throw away the key... Ya think that might be a good idea....

He is the Justin bieber of southwest missouri

Anonymous said...

They must be waiting for him to kill someone else. What a shame.

Unfortunately, if he wasn't intoxicated when he shot Kelly, that removes an argument for denying him bail.

In general, bail is based on the innocent until proven guilty principle, not to mention it making it more difficult to mount a competent defense, and is denied if it is judged the defendant won't attend his trial or is a danger to the community.

If he was intoxicated when he shot her, you could make a stronger case he's dangerous to the community. But I don't see how DUI independent of that case should factor into bail in that case.

Or maybe none of you know him or the troubles he faces.. Please tell me that all of you are innocent of ever committing a sin... How perfect you are in your own little world... One day you all will face your own judgement, remember the stones you cast at others when you're being stoned...

I don't know, maybe if i unintentionlly shot someone I would need some counseling and if I didn't have access to counseling it might drive me to drink. What I am trying to say is Yes he should not be drinking and driving, but I am sure there are some demons he is trying to chase waway wiht a bottle... Judgement is tough if you haven't walked in his shoes...

If you handle any firearm properly the there will be no accident, therefore there is fault and he had been drinking at the time of the incident and was still under the legal driving limit

Anonymous said...

Maybe hes so heart broken and upset with himself on what happened that drinking is the only way for him to cope.

Anonymous said...

I have been a freind of kellys since kindergarden and I don't know exactly what happend but they shouldn't let anyone out on are streets that has killed someone accident or not if he is drinking to cope then he need to go to rehab and a psychiatrist and get help not drink and drive so he can kill someone else if you know him personally get him help so he can control his feelings as for kelly we can't bring her back even tho many of us wish we could

I am not judging him not my place but I am asking the question is bail not revoked when you commit a crime while on bail. I thought that was the case but now I am not sure.

Anonymous said...

Its funny how everyone always points the finger without knowing the whole story. 1. Yes alcohol was involved but he was well under the legal limit.

kindredspirit said...

I was of the mindset that once you were out on bail if you committed another crime or were accused of another crime you lost your bail or bond was revoked is that not true?

Why don't you all go take a look at his case net, case after case after case..JUST in 2013 the biggest one being the killing of my good friend Kelly! You all act like he is just now started drinking to "cope", he has been kicked out of multiple bars in joplin for aggressive behavior, threatening, and fighting. Has restraining orders against him. This piece of shit Has little to zero remorse or sympathy in Kelly's death. What about all the people suffering pain from this? Friends, family? This is the 3rd child her parents has lost. why? All because of some dumb fuck playing with a gun thinking it's funny to point a gun at someone. Any one with the common knowledge on handling a gun knows that when you properly handle a gun it will not just go off. He is at fault and is a danger to society. He needs locked away the key thrown away! 2 dwi's in less than 4 months?! This absolutely blows my mind on how he keeps getting released. People wake up! Is it seriously going to take him to kill another person before all you idiots realize he needs to be locked up! We Will get justice for Kelly!

Anonymous said...

So what if someone gets a dwi? Should they be locked away forever? Because I know for a fact that someone posting on this thread has a dwi... in fact they were with the guy that this blog is about the night they got the dwi. So remember when you point a finger at someone there's 3 more pointing back at you.

Anonymous said...

Correct me if I'm wrong but you got a dwi while you were with doug after leaving the bar right?

Anonymous said...

Idk who the hell you think I am. But I definitely do NOT have a dwi! Thank you.

Anonymous said...

He should have never been let out after the death of Kelly in the first place. How would you feel if it was you're daughter, sister, significant other, best friend? Put yourself in other peoples shoes. Would you still be all buddy buddy with him if he killed one of your own.. hmm doubtful.

Anonymous said...

Keep on pointing fingers at someone who you "think" I may be. In reality I actually do not have a dwi. Thanks though. There's more people looking into this than you all think. We'll get him. Shit, looks like he's doing all the shit on his own without the help of us. It will catch up to him.

Anonymous said...

And I really don't care who you are. Guess what? His dwi got dropped today because he wasnt drunk. Thanks and have a good day.

Anonymous said...

aww how sweet.. dougie douche has a "friend"

Anonymous said...

Yes he does. Check case net now. Dwi = dropped. Armed criminal action = dropped. Charges are dropping left and right because it was an accident. So keep talking all your trash about stuff you don't know anything about. Thanks though.

Anonymous said...

He will still have to live with the guilt of what HE did everyday & thats harsher than any punishment. However, he does deserve to serve time, preferably life but I know our justice system isn't that smart.

Anonymous said...

You're not that smart. How can you say he deserves to spend life? Why don't you post your name so we can all judge you by your mistakes? Oh wait... you won't do that because you dont want people to know that you've made mistakes also. Gtfo.

Anonymous said...

Says the Doug supporter who is also posting as anonymous....

Anonymous said...

I'm not the one pointing fingers at him. You are. Its ok though. Hide behind you're phone like a coward and post all the mitakes he's made.

Anonymous said...

pointing a gun at people and then pulling the trigger on a beautiful innocent girl is not a mistake! He is a psycho and needs serious help!

Anonymous said...

Lol. As I said.... keep pointing the finger at someone for an accident when I guarantee if you had the balls to tell your true name you have made mistakes also.... and if it wasn't a mistake why did the drop the armed criminal action and make it INvoluntary manslaughter? Which means it wasn't voluntary... which means it wasn't on purpose.. which means it was an accident. I'd be willing to bet you've been to the bar with him before.. but we'll never know cause you're not gonna tell who you are because then people would know how much of an idiot you are for criticizing someone for the same things you've done.

Anonymous said...

and the judge wasn't present that night..so he doesn't know if it was an accident or not!!! It's all about what lawyer you have and who knows who, obviously. So that statement is clearly irrelevant.

Anonymous said...

like the judge knows it it was an accident or not! he wasn't present that night... its all about who knows who and who your lawyer is..so clearly that statement is irrelevant

Anonymous said...

Lol. Gets kicked out of every one he goes to huh? Sounds like you need to get your facts straight. And you weren't there the night it happened. So how do you know what happened? And if you've never hung out with him how do you know so much about him?

Anonymous said...

Don't worry about what I know. You seem to think you know everything too...so that can go both ways.. ;) & i know for sure he's gotten kicked out of a lot of bars. You are obviously delusional.. Must have a mental illness, have to have something wrong to be able to stand being around Doug's psychotic ass.

Anonymous said...

Lol. Like guitars? He got kicked out one night because of a misunderstanding... as a matter of fact the owner himself invited him back and apologized... even gave him a vip card to get in free. Must not be too much of a "psycho" if bar owners are greeting him at the door and shaking his hand. Gtfo. And yes I do know a lot more than you think. If you've never hung around him how do you know he's"psychotic"? Keep believing everything you hear. As I said.... hide behind your phone and talk all your trash....

Anonymous said...

Which is it? Does he get kicked out of "every bar he goes to" or " a lot of bars"? Sounds like you're the one with a" mental illness". Your story changes just like every one else that "knows what happened"

Anonymous said...

Umm actually if you remember right, he was kicked out of guitars for quite sometime, he's been kicked out of kp several times. And the owner didn't invite him back in actually, he had to have a "talk" with him and Doug had to apologize in order to get back in. And he had to pay for that VIP card idiot. You all think I'm dumb. But in actuality I'm far from it. Thanks. And alll you guys know is someone's side of the story trying to cover his ass to not go to prison. It will all bite you in the ass one day.

Anonymous said...

And let's just say for the safe act you aren't lying about the vip pass just given to him, he spent one hell of a huge amount to get it. I seen the post and the picture he posted on his fb..

Anonymous said...

How do you know how much he spent to get it? And as I stated before... you must be obsessed with him to be stalking him and supposedly knowing everything about him

Anonymous said...

May I just state that its a possibility he is drinking and driving because he is dead inside after what he did to a friend? I lost a very very close friend in a horrible situation kinda like this. I understand the hate the family has. I tried to find reasons to believe it was an accident until they proved it was on purpose. God needed her home and it had to happen in such a tragic way. I'm so sorry too. I hope you all find peace in your hearts.

This is to Mr. anonymous who continues to defend ( Doug) I am one of MANY aunts of Kelly Jean Crawford. #1 charges were dropped because of legist of the court not law. #2 he did not get what he desearves because of a judge in a small town knows people. #3 He is a MURDERER! When you drop a gun and it goes off and hits a person and kills them, that's an accident or if a 10 yr. Old is playing with a gun and shoots his friend that's an accident of a CHILD.(because they are to young to know better) #4 When a 30 yr.old points a gun unknowing if its loaded at the HEAD of my NIECE while SITTING at a table minding her own business, and gets shot IN the head (aimed) that's NOT an accident. Hell the lazor light showed him where his target was. Accident, yeah right. KELLYS family is NOT going to let this go we will be at his parole hearing to make sure he stays ALL 7 yrs. Hope to see you there too! If any of you knew these (problems) BS he had then maybe he should have been kicked out of that party too. What is a 30 yr. Old doing with a bunch of young 20 yr. Olds anyway. I will tell you this, he is # 1 to blame #2 the person who told him to get the gun is to blame. If he was so sad maybe he shot the wrong head. (Coward) #3 the owners are responsible that everyone on their property is safe at all times. Why do you think we have to have property ins.coverage? Duh!!! We (the family and friends) knows more than you think. Next trip you make to visit that P.O.S you tell him that in or out he will not live a happy quiet life. Because of (Doug) we will never be the same. My sister Leeann is living in a hell. And that hurts us so he needs to too. Let me tell you about my sister who Kelly was like. My sister is the only human being I know whom is a clone of God. She is always praying for the good pple.and the bad. But this is one she cannot pray for. She can not even morn the loss of her daughter until this murderer has paid his dues. Not court, but life. When he gets out and does good for OTHERS she may change. That means devote his life to help others. In the mean time this is not over til they pay. Now shut up about him and talk about Gods child Kelly whom is the ONLY Innocent one...

STOP SAYING DRINKING AND DRIVING.. THATS NOT RELEVANT!!!!!!!!! In this case I'm not annonomus. I don't hide

Love u sis
Yes you young pple think, think before you talk about something you know nothing about. Our Kelly is gone. And we won't rest. And I hope I am informed before he is in the ground because I want to be there to spit on his grave. And the next stop will be the court house steps..
