Winter storm warning for Joplin, Springfield areas until 6 a.m. Monday

WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST MONDAY...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW...SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN REMAINS
IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST MONDAY.

* TIMING AND AREAS AFFECTED...AREAS NORTH OF A LINE FROM BRANSON
  TO EMINENCE MISSOURI INCLUDING THE INTERSTATE 44 AND MUCH OF THE
  U.S. 60 CORRIDORS THIS EVENING THROUGH EARLY MONDAY MORNING.

* SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS...FREEZING RAIN WILL MIX WITH AND
  THEN CHANGE TO SLEET FROM NORTH TO SOUTH LATE TONIGHT INTO
  SUNDAY. ONE TO LOCALLY THREE INCHES OF SLEET IS EXPECTED WITH
  ACCUMULATIONS DEPENDENT ON THE TIMING OF PRECIPITATION CHANGE
  OVER. A TRANSITION TO SNOW WILL OCCUR LATER SUNDAY. SNOW
  ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES CAN BE EXPECTED ON TOP OF THE ICE
  AND SLEET.

* ICE ACCUMULATIONS...ONE TENTH TO A FIFTEEN HUNDREDTHS OF
  FREEZING RAIN IS EXPECTED MAINLY TONIGHT INTO EARLY SUNDAY.
  FREEZING RAIN WILL TRANSITION TO SLEET THEN SNOW FROM NORTH TO
  SOUTH.

* WINDS AND VISIBILITY...NORTH WINDS BETWEEN 10 AND 20 MPH...WITH
  GUSS BETWEEN 20 AND 30 MPH WILL OCCUR THROUGH EARLY MONDAY
  MORNING RESULTING CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW
  LATER SUNDAY. VISIBILITIES MAY BE REDUCED TO LESS THAN A HALF
  MILE IN AREAS OF MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOWFALL.

* IMPACTS...TRAVEL ACROSS THE REGION WILL BE DIFFICULT OR
  IMPOSSIBLE. BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE WHICH
  WILL LIMIT VISIBILITIES TO NEAR ZERO AT TIMES. VERY COLD
  TEMPERATURES WILL RESULT IN A RISK FOR FROSTBITE AND HYPOTHERMIA
  FOR ANYONE WITHOUT PROPER SHELTER.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...SLEET...AND
ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE.
THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE. CONSIDER
TAKING A WINTER STORM KIT ALONG WITH YOU. THIS KIT SHOULD INCLUDE
SUCH ITEMS AS TIRE CHAINS...BOOSTER CABLES...A
FLASHLIGHT...SHOVEL...BLANKETS...EXTRA CLOTHING AND ANYTHING ELSE
THAT WOULD HELP YOU SURVIVE IN CASE YOU BECOME STRANDED.
