Columbia School Board President on Common Core: Is raising the rigor the wrong thing?

Common Core Standards was the topic at a Columbia Board of Education meeting and the board president is completely on board with Common Core, using all of the talking points and throwing around the word "rigor" which is a buzzword educators have begun using the past couple of years:

CPS Board President Christine King says on The Eagle’s Wake Up Columbia worries about nationalized schooling are not legit.
“Common Core is not a curriculum. It is a standard of what the State of Missouri, and all kids, should be able to learn,” King says.
“If we’re raising the rigor, and if everyone agrees that we need to raise the rigor and we’re falling behind on a worldwide issue, why is raising the rigor a bad thing?” King says.
