Russell lawsuit against City of Joplin, Joplin PD moved to federal court

The lawsuit filed by a Joplin man accusing Joplin police officers of false arrest and mistreatment on the night his daughter committed suicide will be heard in federal court.

At the request of the defendants, the City of Joplin, the Joplin Police Department and officers Austin Wolf and Tyler Christensen, the case was removed from Jasper County Circuit Court Monday.

The 16-count lawsuit with plaintiffs Kevin Russell, his wife Julissa and son Brant Russell as plaintiffs.

The petition recounts a nightmarish tale of what the Russells claim happened after 16-year-old Brooke Russell shot herself to death.

Details of the lawsuit can be found at this link.

The state law claims (i.e. all but the Section 1983 claims) will be severed and remanded to the circuit court.
