Bond posted for Joplin High School teacher facing sex charges

The $7,500 bond for former Joplin High School communication arts teacher Jessica Low, who faces felony charges of statutory rape, statutory sodomy, and furnishing pornographic materials to minors was posted Thursday, according to Jasper County Circuit Court online records.

The arraignment for Low, 32, is scheduled for 9:05 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, in Judge Richard Copeland's courtroom. Low is represented by Joplin attorney Charles Genisio.

Mrs. Low was arrested shortly after the end of the school day May 29 at the 9-10 center (the former Memorial Middle School) where she taught.

The probable cause statement alleges she had sex with a 16-year-old boy at his home on two occasions and sent nude photos of herself participating in a solo sex act to that boy and another 16-year-old boy.

Mrs. Low was completing her second year as a teacher in the Joplin R-8 School District.
