Reader: Carol Stark, Joplin Globe have failed this community

A reader left this response to a post from yesterday about C. J. Huff.

I am not a teacher but I am a city employee. I know the truth about Mark Rohr. I have read many comments on Turner's blogs regarding the leadership abilities of C. J. Huff and the leadership abilities of the former city manager Rohr. All of the people commenting can't be wrong or have hidden agendas or axes to grind, but in fact many have legitimate complaints.

The problem is that our local so- called newspaper editor has lost sight of what role the Globe should be serving for its subscribers. She is abusing her power thinking that people wont know the truth and she has been able to take advantage of the fact that many people are just to busy to seek out the truth.

But Joplin is too small to keep everyone in the dark and at some point stark will be sent packing. She covered for Rohr for whatever reason and is doing the same for Huff. The end result is that all of Joplin suffers because of the social circle that controls this want to be editor. She thinks that she is one of them but they just use her to further their agendas.

We all have to comment anonymously to keep our jobs but none of this would be necessary if the Globe fulfilled its role in the community as an honest and diligent messenger of the news instead of a biased and agenda driven propaganda machine with no real interest in honesty.

We can run around and keep kicking each other in the butt or we can demand change at the Globe. Drop your subscriptions and let all of your friends know why. Do not visit the Globe facebook page because they count electronic hits when charging advertisers.

We deserve better and should demand it.

(Repeat of a comment I made to this comment before noticing it had been elevated to its own blog posting.)

I don't think she ever had such a concept of her role. As I remember, MSSU President Speck was the big issue when she got her position, and her first actions with regards to this were to exile the beat reporter for the university, and per an email that came to light, arrange a meeting with Speck to see what she could do for him.

The Globe has never been an outstanding paper but they used to report what's going on. Now the paper is nothing but ads and pats on the back for the people who are ruining our town and schools. The reports don't need to be constantly negative but isn't it the job of the paper to be a NEUTRAL report of what is happening so we can be informed? The place for the not being neutral is the editorial page. Maybe the name of the paper should be changed...The Propaganda Report--Only the Information We Want You to Have.
