C. J. Huff on finishing high school on time: Divine intervention would be helpful

C. J. Huff has been making the media rounds, including a Joplin Globe story that has been run all over the state through Associated Press promising that Joplin High School will open on time, but he is calling on some outside help to make sure that happens.

In an e-mail sent to the Joplin R-8 School District's faith-based Bright Futures partners asking for volunteers to help move items into the new high school, Huff asked  the partners to do what they could do to help on another front. The following was included in a message e-mailed to College Heights Christian Church members.

C. J. Huff, Superintendent of Schools, asked that we pray for the contractors and construction workers. He said, "Divine intervention would be helpful."

College Heights, as well as other churches in Joplin, plan to do their best to help the district to have the new school open on time.

Is this his Plan B? I'm all for prayers, but how about you start talking about what to do if God is too busy with Gaza, Israel, Syria, et al., to worry about our problems, which wouldn't be problems if someone would have thought to lease the mall a little longer.

Divine intervention? Asking for prayer after all the bullying and misappropriating and lying? That's pretty stinking bold and definitely praying for the wrong thing. Prayers for forgiveness seem far more appropriate.

I think I'd be praying for another job far, far away.

I guess you have to work with what you've got. Since he's spent every dime in the district, I guess prayer from his accomplices is all he has left.

Gosh, why didn't we all think of this before? We might have saved the district from having to borrow another 8 million dollars on this project had we applied ourselves.

I agree with 7:28. I find it incredulous that any sincere place of worship would still maintain ties to CJ Huff. Praying for him, fine, like we would anyone else, but praying for his requests in order to save himself from public disgrace? You can bet it isn't "for the kids." It's because he's in a bind.

I don't want to go back there on opening day again. Last year we had a sermon about how each child is made in the likeness of God. That's fine for those who want to believe that, but this is a public school district and not all have the same beliefs and shouldn't have had to listen to that preacher. He lost all credibility when he said that fame and fortune hadn't changed CJ at all. Unless he meant that he's always been like he is now. There's something to investigate.

It's sad that so many of these people have been duped.

I don't think Randy was trying to preach a sermon. That was meant to be an inspirational message not a message to convert anyone.

We DO need all groups working together for our kids. We do NOT need Huff to continue to lie, manipulate and bully.

The only divine intervention I'm praying for is a way to get rid of Huff and Company and get my district back.

Volunteer? NO WAY!

I'm guessing he won't be asking MSSU for help. Apparently his drive so far to get volunteers to help pack and move everything hasn't worked very well.

C.J. is going to need a lot of divine intervention to have all the volunteers and construction workers background checked if they are going to still be working on the building when school starts. We wouldn't want C.J. violating the safe schools act.

The phrase is ginning up the base.

I might pray that no more construction workers are injured, like the poor man with the broken back, but I won't pray for CJ Huff. He has planned poorly and now the work is being done poorly, just as it was at the other schools. Rushing construction is asking for problems. That building is full of problems which we the taxpayers will have to pay for later. We paid enough upfront, seems to me.

When you reverse the letters "CJ"......you get.......no....it can't be.....or can it?????

First I've heard about a construction worker with a broken back.
Another piece of non-transparency.

I think the lack of transparency glares worse with the school story. I've heard they have permission to tear down Emerson, even though it is a historical building, because it had tornado damage, albeit not bad damage. However, that doesn't mean that's the school in question. Perhaps the admin trolls could fill us in on what lot is being sold and for how much.

The last I heard the plan was to put the preschool over by Irving, which is very inconvenient. Would it not be easier to change these old buildings into neighbothood preschools? They are already paid for, and would be more accessible to the parents who need them. But that would make too much sense and wouldn't have a media event riboon cutting ceremony.

I also think that the public should be consulted before any school property is sold. CJ and Wallce Bajjalli don't need to be making secret deals. We don't need to be associated with that group at the district level, too.

I heard they were looking over Washington School, but I don't have a dollar amount.

The tornado didn't cause enough damage to Emerson Elementary to warrant tearing it down and rebuilding. Instead of repairing and modernizing an historical, NEIGHBORHOOD school, which probably could have been completed in less than a year, the Emerson students were bused to Duquesne Elementary for two and half years and now to Soaring Heights. At a time when fuel prices are so high and bus drivers jobs are being cut, it makes no sense to abandon neighborhood schools and put all those kids on buses when the majority of them could have walked to and from school. Meanwhile, the building sits there with windows boarded up, and a six foot fence around it while two blocks away the JHS/FTC castle is being built.

Another fine example of C.J.'s sensible spending.
