C. J. Huff: Tornado-affected Joplin students will be "blown away" by new high school

In an interview with the Joplin Regional Business Journal, R-8 Superintendent C. J. Huff said students will be "blown away" by the new Joplin High School.

Apparently, the reporter who wrote the article also noted that unfortunate choice of words since "blown away' was set off in quotation marks.

"On the first day, I just hope our kids feel the love and support of our city, state, and nation, which made that new school possible," Huff told the Journal.

The interview was featured in the publication's July 21 issue.

(Note: As it turns out, I did not need to use my sources at 32nd and Duquesne to find out about the Huff Administration's contacts with the White House in an effort to bring President Barack Obama to Joplin for the ribbon-cutting in October. In the same article, Huff told the Journal he was in touch with the White House.)

That choice of words is as calloused and tacky as when his accomplice, Angie Besendorfer, declared that there is a silver lining in every funnel (referencing the tornado in one of her speeches promoting her brand of education--the education that has destroyed R8). They are birds of a feather--self-promoting, corrupt, dishonest, greedy, opportunistic, and shallow, for a start.
Please, please, School Board, send this man down the road. He's taking you down, with him, and then all of our kids, too. Enough already.

Maybe he thinks if he can get the President back no one will dare fire him or arrest him since he would look so important. I hope Huff doesn't get the chance to test that theory. He doesn't deserve a break. He's bankrupted the district for his building full of bling. Quit promoting yourself on the shoulders of our students, Huff. No one but your pitiful little board is impressed by this. And then there's that comment one of your central office staff made about the President probably choosing Moore since they lost students in their building and we didn't. Heartless, brainless bunch.

Perhaps the "blown away" and "silver lining" phrases weren't callous or heartless but just not thoughtful. Remember, they are interested in sound bytes, awards and trying to impress and look good.
Heartless is more likely to come in when it comes to their dealings with district personnel.

Being thoughtful comes with wisdom and compassion, does it not? They are certainly cerebral enough to pursue their twisted visions. They simply are not compassionate enough to think to choose their words with consideration for others.

The Huffs are a perfect example of why the old guard dislikes the up-and-comer class. They must always have displays of excess in order to affirm their arrival, and they lack the social graces that are present in those who have long since "arrived." Hence, the messes like the ribbon, lapses of sensitivity such as their expressions of "silver linings" and being "blown away." They must show off their little concrete pond to all the little people and make sure everyone is aware of all they do and get--the new Denali, clothes, trips; even acts of benevolence are for show rather than true acts of kindness.

There is a lack of stability that comes upon arrival. It lacks the depth to be guaranteed, so it must always be pursued in order to keep the public's attention focused on the new arrivals. Sadly for CJ, there is little left to be exploited, and his claim to fame is about exhausted here. After the new school opens there will be no bragging rights left, just a tremendous amount of debt. They will move on to the next spot where they can be the sensation, but we the taxpayers will be picking up the tab for their excesses for decades to come, and our children have lost ground severely academically. It wasn't worth it to get the new buildings. We were doing so much better before. We want our old town back, sans sensation.
