C. J. Huff: Our Eagles are coming home

"Our Eagles are coming home," R-8 Superintendent C. J. Huff said, as he revealed on his Facebook page that the city of Joplin has issued a temporary occupancy certificate for Joplin High School/Franklin Technical Center.

The good news for high school students, who were wondering if they were going to be starting school by Labor Day came after an inspection today.

The high school had failed to pass inspections Tuesday and last Friday, but workers continued to deal with the problems cited by the inspectors.

Volunteers are scheduled to begin moving materials into the building next Monday, with classes set to start Monday, August 25.

What's the difference between a temporary and a permenant certificate?

The city can't issue a permanent one until construction is finished. There's various stuff on the inside, like an auditorium if I remember correctly, and lots of outside work left.

Just because the TCO was granted doesn't necessarily mean the elevators have passed inspection. They are not used in a fire so the permit can be granted without their operation. It might mean volunteers will be moving items up the stairs unless CJ wants to put his cape on and fly them up through an open window.
