C.J. Huff after today's inspection: I've canceled volunteers for remainder of the week

The following message was sent to Joplin R-8 staff this afternoon by Superintendent C. J Huff:

The State Fire Marshall arrived today and began his inspection. We have a design issue in the elevator mechanical rooms that need to be addressed. That process has begun, but may take a day or two. We also have more work to do on programming of the air handling system. Both items are in progress with the scheduling of crews to get the work done.

I've gone ahead and cancelled volunteers for the remainder of the week for two reasons. Number one I want the contractors to complete the work fully and safely and not feel rushed. And number two I don't want the volunteers to continue to be on the hook wondering about whether or not we need them. As soon as we have the areas of concern addressed, we will have the inspectors come out again and do a walkthrough.

We can staff/volunteer up when we are ready to make the move...and will.

As far as an 8/25 date is concerned, Universal continues to hit their schedules on a daily basis and are tracking in the right direction for project completion. Hang in there. I will be sure to let the high school staff know as soon as it is available for the move!

So this was a "real" inspection that failed this time, right?

Has anyone else noticed that CJ Huff has stopped signing his blog with, "For our kids"? Maybe he's beginning to be transparent.

If I were a volunteer, I'd try penciling in around December.
