Former Joplin Police chief, April election candidates apply for Joplin R-8 Board

Former Joplin Police Chief Lane Roberts is among five candidates who submitted applications for the vacant position on the Joplin R-8 Board of Education.

Two candidates from April's election, Jeff Koch and Shawn McGrew, also submitted applications, along with Jennifer Martucci and Chris Tucker.

Not applying for the post, despite efforts to persuade him to do so was former R-8 Board President Jeff Flowers.

The position became vacant when Dawn Sticklen, who had been on the board since 2012, resigned after she transferred her daughter to Webb City High School.

Interviews with the five candidates are scheduled for Wednesday in the Administration Building at 32nd and Duquesne.

Not mcafee, not another lawyer wife. Koch..

McGrew was soundly thumped at the last election. CJ is grasping at straws to bring him back, when the public obviously rejected him. Didn't he have a back taxes problem? Just what we need. Another board member who can't manage money.

Seems to me that Koch was a strong contender in the last race. Was fairly well informed at the debates. He'd have my vote if I could give it.

Unlike the last lawyer's wife, Martucci will care about what happens for all the kids, not just her own. Good common sense lady with a heart and a brain. CJ will hate that, but the rest of us will appreciate her very much.

Anybody know why Lane Roberts is doing this? What's his motivation? Curious. Mighty curious after his swift departure from office just ahead of Rohr. Coincidence? The public would like to know.

Are candidates required to live in the district? I'm nearly certain Lane Roberts lives on the Webb City side of the district line.

I'd like to know if Martucci was part of the parent group that didn't want to combine Columbia with West Central.
