Online petition seeks firing of C. J. Huff

An online petition seeking the firing of Joplin R-8 Superintendent C. J. Huff was starrted today on Change.org.

The petition comes in the wake of Huff's verbal attack on R-8 Board of Education member Debbie Fort and his recent Facebook attacks on another board member, Jennifer Martucci, prior to the April 7 election.

The petition, which is directed to new Board of Education President Jeff Koch says the following:

It's time to take action. C J Huff has performed gross misconduct in his role as Superintendent. He is a detriment to our kids, the parents of Joplin's school children and the taxpayers of Joplin, MO.

In addition, a new Facebook group called C. J. Huff Has Got to Go started today.

About time. This needs to go viral.

Who starred the petition? ....and the facebook page?

It's about time!

Wow. A Facebook group? Really? What a great way to teach our children how to handle problems.
I completely understand a petition shared through online means in order to collect community opinion and fight for what you believe in. A Facebook group on the other hand that says it is a place to "vent and plan the ousting" of our current superintendent is pretty childish and is basically middle/high school bullying at best. Grow up. Show up to board meetings. Sign petitions. Speak for change if that's what you want, but so long as you are doing it in the name of our children, keep in mind the example you are setting.

I'm nervous to sign the petition because my wife is a teacher and I'm worried about her catching heat.

And keep in mind the example Mr. Huff has set.

the people of joplin used to love CJ Huff and this is a fact no one can deny, people wanna complain and state all the problems but nobody wants to be apart of the solution

I can't figure out why this hasn't already been done? What have we been waiting for?

You know, he is human. Making mistakes like ALL of us do. Including you Turner. Your constant attacking really isn't doing much. Like they say, you're just a disgruntled ex-employee of Joplin Schools. I think you're a smart person, but definitely not a good one. You ruined that reputation long ago in my eyes.

Randy Turner has singlehandedly destroyed all of the wonderful things that have been going on in the Joplin School District. When CJ Huff is gone, people are going to regret letting this evil man lead an entire community astray.

The petition is also anonymous

Bard:
If the petition is anonymous it holds no weight. Without names how can you prove that you didn't go sign it from 10 different locations or even 10 different times on the same computer. Nothing about this process (facebook or petition) is being done in an manner that will result in any kind of change.

AGREED

Oh look! It's the Huff trolls out on display. After last night's performance they must really be scared for their cushy jobs and will do anything to discredit those against their Dear Leader. Unfortunately, it won't work. Those who have brains with which to think see CJ for what he really is. I would jump ship, were I one of the trolls. Going down with Dear Leader only makes future employment even more difficult for you. No one really believes that Turner is the fault of all that's gone wrong here. Yet another CJ ploy that isn't going to work.

Anonymous said...

The petition is merely to show that people have had all they can take. I'm sure a legal document can be started. In fact, perhaps it has...

That people are still clinging to CJ is worrisome. What kind of sickness is that?

Unkown said...

Yeah, you're so funny. I'm not one of his "trolls". I was a student for Joplin and once a student for Randy, who failed at his teaching career. He deserved to be fired from East. And I truly believe that. Understand that Turner Troll?

Anonymous said...

So let me get this straight....you think that we should just let ALL of Mr. Huff's "mistakes" go? If we keep turning the other cheek we will go deeper in debt, lose what respect in the district that we have left and do an injustice to our children.

Anonymous said...

Wonderful things? We must be talking about two different school districts.

Anonymous said...

Lol...like it's Randy's fault that Huff has shown his true colors. Wait...maybe it IS Randy's fault he is coming unhinged. DAMN YOU RANDY TURNER!!! *shaking fist in air*

I don't think teachers or their families should sign this. Let the parents handle it. Too risky.

Sacrifices were made, mistakes were made. Recognize them, but don't constantly attack someone and make it worse. Things have happened, like they always do. But you all are just agging it on nonstop.

I would rather see the new board meet with the superintendent make it clear to him that his current behavior will no longer be tolerated. He must acknowledge that he reports to the Board not the other way around as the previous BOE allowed to occur. There is no shame in admitting one's mistakes. I would like for him to publicly apologize for Tuesday night's outburst, but I'm sure that's too much to expect. He should be given goals and a time line and then if he cannot or will not comply, he should resign or the district should begin the process of replacing him.

Huff is in a mudhole, it is up to you people to step on his head.

We HAVE recognized them. The problem is that we have not only recognized the problems but also the root of the problems. And that "root" has proven that he is unfit for the job. But I can see how you would think that we're piling on....its hard to point out so many "problems" and come across as nice.

So just because someone disagrees with your opinion they are a troll? Hating on someone because their opinion is not the same as yours or assuming they're speaking out to protect themselves as they comment anonymously...classy.

Anonymous said...

@6:15. You have a great outline for future meetings. I couldn't agree more. However, I think the behavior is far past point of no return.

Anonymous said...

Exactly. The administration has created a culture of fear among the teachers.

Anonymous said...

Ahhhhh poor thing. Tears are the last line of defense for the bully.

Anonymous said...

Yes, when your idol is gone, Joplin will commit mass suicide in a fit of grief and guilt.

You so funny (;

Anonymous said...

@6:15....Agreed

I too am a former, no wait, current student and Randy is evil. Yes Randy made CJ do all those bad things. It was Randy who forced CJ to attack his two little girl employees, Debby and Jenny, He is holding the Huff kitty cat hostage in his basement. Yeah, that's it. CJ is a saint, and everyone of we students drop to our knees and thank God he protects us from all those evil anti Huff people who hate Joplin, children, education, and America!

Anonymous said...

Everyone seems to forget that as long as he exercises absolute control over fifty percent of the BOE he can and will do whatever he pleases.

So Joplin's parents, taxpayers, and citizens can just kiss that evergrowing glob of lilly white jelly upon which he sits.

Anonymous said...

After his board meeting behavior he is as good as gone people. Lot of conservative colors shown here, but not much Christianity.

Anonymous said...

Huff needs to go. Now. No more "oh but this... oh but that... oh but maybe..." none. We are done with excuses. His misconduct at meetings and his awful slander of the Martucci family before the election was nothing short of despicable and appalling. The board is the governing force behind things. Not the superintendent.

The board and the people hold the power.

This isn't Soviet Russia, though with the way Huff is conducting things (actively seeking out teachers who exercise their right to free speech to question him and his opinions, and then threatening them and terminating them, much like he did with Randy) it may as well be. Get out of here, Mr. Charles J. Stalin. Go away to spend the rest of your life working on a loading dock and hating every minute of it.

The people have spoken. It's time to listen and take action.

Jeff Koch, unlike his predecessor, doesn't strike me as someone who will sit back and allow Huff to bully board members. We just elected new board members and need to give them a chance to do their job instead of trying to dictate what they should do with Huff. As much as I can't stand him and would love to see him, Tina Smith, Mike Johnson, etc. out on their collective butts, I'm not sure firing Huff at this point is wise. He needs to stick around for a while to answer for some of the mess he has made of this district.

What I witnessed was clearly adult BULLYING. And very inappropriate at a BOE meeting either public or behind closed doors. . The superintendent clearly demonstrated a lack of self control. Obviously a bad example for our children. We are suppose to be against bullying, name calling, accusatory remarks, and disrespectful behavior. I am further shocked to learn that there is a plain clothes policeman necessary at a school board meeting in this town.

Anonymous said...

What if the BOE "suspended CJ Huff" "indefinitely" for his inappropriate behavior and named Kerry Sachetta as "acting" Superintendent. This way the BOE will have time to "sort things out".

Maybe CJ Huff ego will not be able to handle the suspension. Also they could "demote" CJ Huff - even though they will still have to pay him the same salary.

The Facebook page is a good idea but it desperately needs some work. I hope the current administrator or administrators will seek some guidance from someone with more experience. The page will never be taken seriously if it becomes the sort of place where members are allowed to post about whether or not former board members are washing their hands upon exiting the restroom. I think it probably takes a lot of work to run a page. In order to attract the right kind of attention and hopefully affect some real change, the content will need to be closely monitored. The content should be level headed and civilized. Not all attention is good attention. If some immediate changes aren't made the little page with good intentions with quickly become a page that is thought of as a joke.

@11:15....you are correct. If it doesn't change and become more civil I will be parting ways with it.

I am by all means open to any suggestions!!

Unknown said...

I have also informed everyone to remain civil and act in an appropriate and professional manner.

You obviously haven't signed the petition. I recommend signing the petition and checking the little box that asks for your name to withheld. I of course am open to any suggestions you may have that may be a better way other than doing nothing!!
