Joplin man indicted on child pornography charge

The initial hearing for a Joplin man charged with receiving and distributing child pornography was held this morning in U. S. District Court in Springfield.

The government made a motion to have Robert E. Riggs, 45, held without bond while awaiting trial. The detention hearing was scheduled for December 13, but later in the day the public defender filed a motion asking for a continuance because he has a hearing in Greene County Circuit Court that day.

According to the indictment, Riggs' alleged crimes took place between January 1, 2020 and May 25, 2022 in Jasper County.

Riggs is awaiting trial in Jasper County Circuit Court on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance stemming from a May 25 arrest by the Duquesne Police Department.

His next hearing in that case is scheduled for December 12.
