What is has to do with social work, I fail to understand, but a Missouri State University student testifying Tuesday at the hearing for the Emily Brooker Intellectual Diversity Act said one of her professors claimed that a good social worker "must engage in a homosexual act at some point."
The act, which is being proposed by Rep. Jane Cunningham, R-Chesterfield, and is co-sponsored by Marilyn Ruestman, R-Joplin, calls for requiring "each public institution to report annually to the general assembly detailing the steps the institution is taking to ensure intellectual diversity and the free exchange of ideas." It is named for the MSU student who sued the university after a professor required students to write state legislators asking them to support adoption rights for gays.
The House Higher Education Committee approved the legislation by a 5-3 margin.

I can't believe that this statement is accurate. What idiot in their right mind would say something like that. The best social workers have empathy, caring and a clear boundary line. That would be similar to someone saying "before you do drug and alcohol counseling, you have to shoot heroin into your body". I have worked in the social work field for many years without the experience of "gay sex", and I seem to be providing appropriate services for my clients. Something is definitely wrong with MSSU if they continue to allow these types of statements to be made.
I believe it was MSU in Springfield not MSSU in Joplin
Alright, it's time for the media to start to ignore idiots. Quit repeating anything these morons say or do. Do it for the good of society. Just stop it. No more of this. No more Anna Nicole, no more Paris, Brittney and all of that.

What homosexual act is being proposed by those Republicans?
Whoops. That was a poor choice of words on my part. Obviously, that should have read bill instead of act.
I find it hard to believe that a professor stated that good social workers must have gay sex. That is so ludicrous and it makes little sense. I would be very sceptical of the person testifying about this. Maybe someone is wanting attention?
Before I believed or printed such a story, I would want to know who said it and if there were any witnesses.
Was it a joke? What was the context? I went through that program and none of MSU (at the time SMSU) Social Work professors ever said anything like that.
Refer to the News Leader article. The quote said a professor made a statement THAT LEAD STUDENTS TO BELIEVE (my emphasis)that social workers should have gay sex etc.
This is a whitewash folks.
So, enlighten me, please. What does the bill Ruestman (alias Sue E. Generis) want to get passed do? Require what from Universities? DOES THIS MEAN SHE WANTS TO CONTROL THE CLASSROOM NOW? First, she wants in my bedroom to tell me how to act there, then she wants in my doctor's office to control what we do there, and now she wants in my classroom. Will she ever be satisfied, this wench? Will Somebody Please Send Her Home to Noel with her Tail Between her Legs???? Please???
