The words DUI have still not been used by KSNF as it just had its sports anchor tease the next segment by saying that Pittsburg State University Coach Chuck Broyles has "admitted to a very big mistake."
Though it is good that Broyles has owned up to what he did, that phrasing makes it appear far less serious than saying the Galena Police Department arrested Broyles on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Broyles, of course, is host of the Chuck Broyles Show on KSNF.
At the beginning of the sports section, anchor Morgan Vance did note that Broyles had been arrested for DUI and read Broyles' statement. "We will have more on this story when it becomes available," Vance said.
Apparently, KSN contacted no one from the Galena Police Department, and relied solely on news releases from the university for its coverage.
Reality is, more people were out and about shopping than have an true interest in Pitt State football. Shopping was today, Broyles was Tuesday night. There was no real victim other than the loosely applicable "society in general". Even most newspaper editors are going to put shopping higher than a dui arrest.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, you are right. Most newspaper editors and TV assignment editors will opt for the easy shopping story. Yes, more people are shopping, but very few people are interested in reading or watching stories about shopping. The Broyles story is news; the Black Friday shopping is a crutch used by editors with little or no initiative or imagination.
ReplyDeleteLooks like KSNF is the one who made a 'very big mistake'
ReplyDeleteNo way, Chuck Broyles is a name that everyone in SE Kansas is familiar with and big portion of SW Missouri as well. This is a guy who strongly represents Pitt State University and you are telling me that shopping goes as a higher priority? Get real! KSN doesn't want to raddle the cage, because they make money from the Broyles show, that's why they buried it in their newscast.
ReplyDelete16 sure isn't what it use to be! We typically watch 7 but occasionally my wife and I will turn 16 on, sometimes I just wonder what they are thinking and who is making these decisions! I worked in TV years ago and to often 16 breaks the rules of broadcasting 101. TV isn't what it use to be and to be quite honest either is Jim Jackson.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above comment
ReplyDeleteWonder what Tiger Woods thinks about this?
ReplyDeleteHaha! I'm surprised KSNF didn't lead with Tiger Woods crash. Maybe next time.
ReplyDeletewell its a sign of the times that KSN must think of who pays the bills over good reporting. But would the other stations do it any different if it was one of their sponsors?
ReplyDeleteGood reporting should always come first or why bother. Local news media outlets are not PR agencies. I understand there is a conflict of interest here but give me a break! I wont be watching KSN anymore.
ReplyDeleteI just want to thank Randy for pointing this out. He has always done such a good job over the years monitoring our politicians and media. I check on here once a day to see what the latest is. If he had not pointed this latest flaw out, none of us would have ever noticed. Thank you Randy!
ReplyDeletei agree with what the last person said thank you randy
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to read that some of you need Randy to think for you....WOW some high quality fans!
ReplyDeleteI am a Pittsburg resident as well as a past PSU graduate. And I can tell you first hand what an arrogant A** Chuck Broyles is!! None fall so far as those who think they are higher than anyone else!
ReplyDeleteMaybe this will teach MR. (not Coach) Broyles a lesson in humility!
