“President Obama’s agenda, clearly in the size and scope, represented a threat to me and my family and our future that was much more significant than I thought it would be. And so I became a candidate out of self-defense,” said Nodler.
Am I the only one who thinks Nodler would have been in the race, Obama or no Obama?

A very real likelihood is emerging: after Nodler loses in the August primary, the MSSU Board of Governors will finally fire President Bruce Speck. Nodler will then be appointed interim president. Furthermore, he'll be in the driver's seat when MSSU conducts a national search for the presidency. Here's why this is so likely: Nodler was instrumental in the bill that passed a couple of years ago allowing a state politician with only a Bachelors Degree and eight years of service to hold faculty rank at any public Missouri university. Nodler also has been strangely silent as the Speck debacle has unfolded, saying only that it's up to the Board of Governors to govern the university. Nevermind the fact that he works to get all the Governors appointed, including two terms for Dwight Douglas, and that he has always declared MSSU to be his university. Nodler prefers that Speck hang on until August, when he can easily step into the MSSU presidency.
Nodler, Dwight Douglas and the BoG cannot even imagine the revolt that would occur at MSSu if an incompetent like Nodler were to be appointed to MSSUn any capacity.
The reaction to Bruce so far has been nothing, absolutely nothing, compared to what the reaction would be were Gary Nodler to be appointed interim.
"This may or may not be true, I don't know, but here it is anyway, cause it might be true or then again it might not be true, so here it is anyway even though it might not be true...then again it might be....just in case it is."
I knew Congressman Short. He spoke on campus to dedicate one of our buildings in the 1970's. I remember how he encouraged us to continue to support the school, and many of us have. Senator Nodler is only one of thousands of us who have contributed time and money because we too, as Congressman Short did then, believe in our community and our university.
I knew Dewey Short. You've got a ways to go to be as respected as him. But it's not to late for you to support MSSU in a constructive way.
MSSU cannot move forward in a construtive way until Speck is gone. Nodler at least has some common sense and some significant achievements in the legislature. Speck has nothing but a litany of failures and public embarrassments. Everything the man touches or tries to do ends up in the dumper.
Grab the popcorn. This thread could get entertaining fast.
11:29: Revolt? That's cute. Will there be some AAUP meetings and Chart editorials with cuss words? I'm sure the politburo is scared. The students and faculty are powerless to stop whatever the cabal wants. If students and faculty don't like it then they can go elsewhere. Of course, there's that nasty little problem of many MSSU students and faculty not having the qualifications to go elsewhere.
12:29: Did you honestly put "Nodler" and "common sense" in the same sentence?
Folks, we're screwed. Nixon doesn't care. His higher ed priority is getting Mizzou in the Big 10 and hoping the rest of us whither on the vine. MSSU going down the tubes is OK with him.
the only sense Nodler has is the sense of self-importance
Nodler should be afraid; be very afraid! You bet the progressive arm of the Democratic party is a threat to him and his family's way of life!
All those who gorge themselves on the continued ignorance and fear and bigotry of the struggling mass of citizens have a lot to fear from the left succeeding!
When the poor realize their children can accomplish more, have more, understand more, control more through expanded access to improved education, through universal access to affordable health care, through improved housing and the controlled growth of avaricious corporate beasts ... when that time comes, Nodler, and that whole oligarchy of hate-mongers in the party of the rich and selfish will have much to fear indeed!
Wow! Nodler passed a LAW that a BS or BA with no practical experience was perfectly acceptable for tenure track faculty? So, that ought to mean that my MS should get me a full professor's position, right? What a relief! I was concerned that my academic career would be cut short, but not in Missouri! Hell, maybe I'll move to Columbia! Thank you Professor Nodler! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!
You guys really crack me up! Passing laws custom made for your own personal convenience! What a joke, if it were not all so DANGEROUS!
He would have run with or without Obama. He's not a nice person.
