Will KODE replace Oprah with local programming?

Less than one year from now, the 4 to 5 p.m. time slot will come into play at KODE for the first time in years and Oprah's replacement may not be a syndicated program.

In a recent question-and-answer session, Nexstar Broadcasting CEO Perry Sook indicated the Nexstar stations that carry Oprah may replace the show with local programming when the show ends next September. KODE is technically owned by Mission Broadcasting, but tthe station is operated by Nexstar.

Well, we do have a contract in I think nine Nexstar markets with a lady by the name of Oprah Winfrey, and that expires in September of 2011. That’s approximately 25% of our entire programming expense line. And that will be replaced by and large with local programming, so there will be a portion, a fraction of that license fee that will be reinvested into the news budget to create local news or information type programming in those time periods, by and large the bulk of those license fees will be put into our pocket as savings and go to the bottom line.

A move to local programming in a slot normally filled with syndicated programming would not be unprecedented locally for Nexstar, which recently expanded the 6 p.m. newscast at KSNF to one hour.

What will they replace 'O' with, the Downstream Gospel Hour?

Haha! That is funny. Amen.

Maybe they can invite Brian Doorman back and let him have his own hour. I would watch that!

I think local programming would be great! Randy do you have suggestions?

Randall could host a program centered on attacking MSSU and allow the 'dirty dozen' faculty members to air their laundry.

In addition, he could attack the Joplin School District for not running the school system according to his standards.

For entertainment, the house band could be the "Greasy Dead" or whatever his groupies are called.

Randy make a suggestion? OMG...OMG...Lord help us! Although 8:52 had a good look at what Randy could do. After all, he's the authority on newspapers ... magazines ..radio..television...text books ...music...he could probably even rewrite the Bible...I'm sure the original authors didn't do a good enough job to suit him!

You know you have the choice not to pay attention to what Randy says or you could even have your own blog so people could complain about you. I enjoy Randy's blog because he has a lot of local information you will not find anywhere else. So if you don't like it then leave. We don't need to know you don't like it, like we cared what you think anyway.

KSN has an hour long 6 pm news? They should probably promote that. I would turn over and watch after I see the news on KOAM.
