Other than speaking to the president and asking for his help, the speech was not inspiring from where I sat.
Instead of delivering an actual account of the state of the union, we were treated to a campaign speech. The president said he didn't like partisan politics while delivering a very partisan speech. Not mentioning ISIS until late, and never mentioning the 10 sailors that were taken captive by Iran today was shocking.

What a pathetic hatred filled party the Republicans have become. Regardless of who is the President the office itself is entitled to "Respect". Republican Presidential candidates who, with hound dog eyes, blather about God, church and the sanctity of life will, five minutes later, talk about carpet bombing people and "dropping nukes" in the middle east. What has happened to you? Don't you have a single Colin Powell left in your party. As for the fat fool Billy, as long as there is gerrymandering, he can feed his fat face in Vegas all he wants and knows he'll still be re-elected every two years.
Anonymous 11:32 & 12:13; I am not trying to defend him, but it seems hypocritical to call the republicans hateful in the first sentence and then call Billy Long "fat fool", "fat, ugly and stupid", "fat face" and "fat slug". Doesn't that a sound sort of hateful too? I guess it is still PC to call overweight people names. Why not research his voting record and criticize that and not go for the cheap shots? Your point gets lost in all of the hateful name calling. As far as "respecting" the office of the president, I agree the office does deserve our respect, but I remember some very hateful remarks directed from democrats towards President Bush. Both partys have a lot problems and both have too many racists. Don't be so naive to think it isn't on both sides. God bless.

You are right and I apologize for the "fat fool" comment. It does sound hateful and I don't want to succumb to it. I do watch Billy's voting record and I don't believe he represents the best interests of his constituents. As for "respecting" the office of the President and President Bush, I don't remember a member of the Democratic party shouting "you lie" at a SOTU address. I don't remember a member of the Democratic leadership announcing at the beginning of President Bush's term that their goal was to obstruct anything that the President tries to do. Politics is an ugly business on both sides, but I don't see solutions to our problems coming from the Republicans. Comments like; you're ugly, you wear high heels, throw that man out of here and keep his coat, I'm a Christian now lets carpet bomb them; taxpayers are giving the Iranians millions (we're not, it's unfreezing Iranian assets) doesn't solve anything. If I ever vote Republican again, I have to see answers to problems, not just complaints. OK, Obamacare-bad - must get rid of it. Tell me what your plan is for a replacement. If I ever consider voting Republican again, it will be for a Colin Powell type statesman and not the current crop. Niki Haley is a good start, though. God Bless.
