An apology for the crap that runs on the Turner Report, plus this week's most visited Turner Report/Inside Joplin posts

I hesitated before writing the headline to this post, knowing full well there are some out there who think everything that is written on the Turner Report is crap.

There has been some material that I have run on a regular basis that could often be termed as crap, at least by many of you, and I will continue to run that material- after all Jason Smith, Sam Graves, Vicky Hartzler and Billy Long are elected officials and their columns give us some insight into their thinking and into how the taxpayers' money is being spent.

So their columns and news releases will continue running on the Turner Report.

The same cannot be said for the columns of former State Rep. Cynthia Davis, R-O'Fallon, and Ed Martin, the former chief os staff for Gov. Matt Blunt, who is now the head honcho for Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. And I apologize for subjecting you to it, even though I know there were a few of you who agreed with every word they wrote.

Their columns and news releases were always lightning rods because they had strong opinions on things they either clearly knew nothing about (Davis) or clearly knew better but knew the audience they were trying to reach (Martin).

I did not run them because they were thought-provoking, because it is difficult to provoke thought when so little thought went into the writing.

I have received complaints about Martin and Davis, but I had a selfish reason for continuing to run their columns and news releases- a lot of people visited the posts.

I have reached a point, however, where I simply cannot use that reason to justify running material that is so factually challenged, so divisive and often hateful.

So their days on the Turner Report have ended.

If they happen to run for elective office, or are involved in some legitimate news story, I will reconsider, otherwise, you will not see anything from Cynthia Davis or Ed Martin on this blog in the future.

Announcement of my new book

Though the publication of my next book is still a few months away, I will announce the subject of the new bo.ok in a column that will be published both in a local newspaper and on the Turner Report later this week.

The announcement is being made in conjunction with the anniversary of a historic event that is a major part of the book.

More information to come.
