Brian Garvey of SFS Architecture presented design proposals for Memorial Hall at a public meeting Tuesday night.
The idea is that the refurbished Memorial Hall plus the upcoming Harry M. Cornell Arts and Entertainment Complex would form a cultural center in the heart of downtown.
The portion of 8th Street in front of Memorial Hall would be closed if this plan is put into effect.

How will the improvements be funded? What revenue streams will there be to pay for the upkeep and operational costs? How can Parks & Rec afford this when they are already claiming they don't have enough funding/staffing to handle what they already have? How would the lingering impacts of the pandemic affect the ability of the facility to generate enough revenues to sustain itself? How much more will this cost the citizens (taxpayers)? What is the viability of the target market that would form it's customer base? Lots and lots of questions.
Taxes on the 1%. They have enough and they should be made to pay their fair share so we can all benefit.
Instead of Tax dollars at work, it's Tax dollars at waste.
Joplin City council always makes a bonehead financial decision.
It's not a question of if money is lost on this deal, but rather how much money will be lost on this deal?
Why are people so suspicious of good deeds and big ideas?
This project is super legitimate.
It's not like it's the moron mafia come to town!
It's a well-known principle that if you keep the flint in one drawer and the steel in the other, you'll never strike much of a fire.
