A grand jury indictment of a Joplin man on weapons charge was unsealed today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
A detention hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. September 4 in Springfield for Christopher Mark Vaughn, 48, who is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
During his initial court appearance today, Vaughn entered a not guilty plea.
The federal charges stem from Vaughn's arrest by the Joplin Police Department July 10, which resulted in the weapons charge, as well as possession of a controlled substance.
From the probable cause statement of the Jasper County case:
On 07-10-2024 I, Officer O'Brey, was dispatched to City of Joplin in reference to a male passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle. Upon arrival, contact was made with Christopher Vaughn in the driver's seat of a running vehicle.Christopher was disoriented and did not know what was going on. I immediately observed his pupils to be the size of pinpoints and they were also blood shot.
After administering SFST's, Christopher was determined to be under the influence and placed under arrest for DWI. A firearm was also seen in plain view in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
While searching Christopher incident to arrest, I located a baggie with a large amount of a white crystal substance, commonly known as methamphetamine, in his lower right pocket.
While searching the vehicle, I located a Kimber .45 cal pistol loaded with 6 rounds, another small baggie with a white crystal substance, 4 unmarked blue capsule pills, 2 Oxycodone pills, 4 Alprazolam pills, 3 used needles, and 2 containers with a bright pink liquid substance.
The two baggies of white crystal substance were tested using the Tru-Narc and showed to be positive for methamphetamine. All substances will be sent to the lab for testing. The white crystal substance located showed to weigh approximately 18 grams total.
Upon running Christopher through MULES/NCIC, he showed to be a convicted felon and on parole for narcotics. He also showed to have 2 prior DWI convictions.

Lock him up!
Throw away the key!
Not everyone makes good decisions he was going thru shit and made some horrible decisions everyone has a chance at life. So back off him plz God gave his life for all of us so what's that mean if he couldn't give him another chance.
Everybody makes mistakes there's no reason to sit there and badge this man. He has only made a mistake just like everybody else has made mistakes in this world and who are you to judge on what and who he is and how he is as a person and maybe he was going through something in his life that was tragic and made a horrible decision and just FYI God gave his life for all of us so who's to say that he wouldn't give him a second chance and who are you to judge anybody
That man is a life long drug abuser, drug dealer and woman beater. He will never change. The only time he is sober is in prison.Watch your children around him as well 2 children accused him of doing heinous sexual crimes to them, but he was never charged. Now he will pay the price for what he has done. He's hurt so many people in his life. May god forgive him but also keep him off the streets for good.
Didn't he beat you in front of your kids?
Not everyone makes good decisions, but he has had chance after chance. Know it is time for him to pay the price for his actions. Whether he learns his lesson or not - time will tell. The fact is that 7 out of 10 Criminals, commit more crimes within 5-Years of Release from jail / prison. For now we are removing him from Society.
God has given him a life long full of chances, and this is how he always repays GOD. Prison is his only hope to stay sober and to not harm people! He's damn near 50 years old if he was ever going to change he would have by now. Give up the sob story and get yourself off of drugs and take care of your damn kids for once. Put less energy into this man who beat you and cheated on you and fed you drugs instead of getting sober for you. HE WILL NEVER CHANGE. He's a child molester as well you sick ass!!
Apple doesn't fall far from the tree. His father is doing life in prison for raping, robbing, and killing an old woman in her house!
