Joplin parents cited for DWI, endangering the welfare of a child

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed DWI and endangering the welfare of a child charges against a Joplin man and an endangering the welfare of a child charge against his wife.

Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety for both Jamin D. Stauber and Nikki Danelle Stauber.

From the probable cause statement for Jamin Stauber:

On 7/3/2025, I, Officer Conant, responded to the Best Western Hotel in reference to individuals found unconscious in a vehicle with a child in the back seat.

Upon arrival, I spoke with personnel from the Neosho Fire Department who were already on scene. They advised they had made contact with a female, identified as Ms. Stauber, who was unconscious in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

Fire personnel stated that Ms. Stauber initially claimed she was fine and declined medical assistance.

As the fire personnel returned to their vehicle, they observed the vehicle nearly colliding with the fire truck. They intervened to prevent further movement of the vehicle. At that time, they observed Ms. Stauber actively inhaling from an air duster can. Fire personnel took possession of the air duster can and removed the keys from the vehicle's ignition.

I then spoke with the juvenile passenger, V1, an 8-year-old female. V1 started that while traveling on the roadway, Jamin Stauber, her father, repeatedly took the can of air and inhaled it. She reported that after each use, Mr. Stauber would lose consciousness and swerve while driving.

V1 stated Ms. Stauber was also inhaling the air duster and losing consciousness while Mr. Stauber was driving. V1 stated this occurred multiple times before they pulled into the parking lot.

Once in the parking lot, both Mr. Stauber and Ms. Stauber lost consciousness for a short period of time. Upon regaining consciousness, both adults resumed inhaling the air duster, V1 stated this cycle repeated several times. She expressed that she was scared and that this had occurred on multiple occasions in her presence.

According to the probable cause statement, Nikki Stauber was charged with the same offense on June 20.

The case was investigated by the Neosho Police Department.

These 2 obviously do not deserve to have custody of the 8 year old. I pray the child is taken out of there custody and placed with a family that will love her and take care of her
