Twenty months after The Turner Report broke the news that former Westview C-6 Superintendent Misty Hailey was spending district money for her and her family, including using the district credit card to pay for her daughter's wedding dress, a state investigation of the district has begun.
State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick issued a news release this afternoon announcing that a performance audit of the district has begun:

The Westview C-6 School District will now receive a thorough review from Missouri State Auditor Fitzpatrick after an investigation by his office found a whistleblower complaint alleging inappropriate purchases by the former superintendent to be credible. Fitzpatrick's office met with school officials Tuesday, March 24 to begin the performance audit that will look at the issues with the former superintendent as well as other aspects of how the school district operates."There is a great deal of trust placed in school officials to use the funds provided to the district appropriately. In this case, it appears former Superintendent Misty Hailey may have abused that trust by misusing the district's credit card to purchase items for herself and her family that include a wedding dress for her daughter," said Auditor Fitzpatrick.
"Our investigation has found enough to warrant a full audit that will dig into the details of what happened in the Westview C-6 School District. We will work as quickly as possible to give taxpayers the answers they deserve and, if necessary, work with law enforcement to ensure anyone who has betrayed the public's trust is held accountable for their actions."
The investigation conducted by Fitzpatrick's office was initiated by a Whistleblower Hotline submission that alleged the misuse of school funds by the former superintendent.

The investigation found evidence of improper governmental activity, which included the questionable credit card purchases that appeared personal in nature, as well as questionable check and payroll disbursements including payments to the former superintendent for additional duties that were not approved by the Board.

-The district opened a daycare center for employees, but for quite some time after it opened, the only child who benefited was Hailey's grandson.
-Hailey's daughter's boyfriend was hired to do mowing work for the district, again with no bids and with hefty payments that continued during winter months when no mowing was being done.
There was at least one thing Hailey did that was not done with the board's okay.

Some of the allegations referred to by the state auditor were detailed in the July 16, 2024 Turner Report, which revealed that Westview's Board of Education was fully aware of what was going on.

District sources tell the Turner Report Hailey used the district credit card to buy a wedding dress for her daughter to the tune of approximately $800. Hailey told the board it was a mistake, but reportedly has made no effort to repay the money.
Whistleblowers contacted the state auditor's office in 2024, but were unable to get anything done because at that time they would have to circulate petitions in order to have an audit.
A change in Missouri law now allows the state auditor's office to investigated public corruption without having to go through the petition process.
Misty Hailey, is a blatant thief and a criminal and should be treated that way. No Probation, No Deals - Just jail time.

ReplyDeletethere is no mercy or compassion for someone who misuses the schools funding for their own personal use. We pay taxes to the school district so that it can be used FOR OUR KIDS!! FOR CHRIST SAKE MAN THE WATER IN THE SCHOOL IS CONTAMIANTED! The kids in the school hardly go on field trips anymore because they dont have that funding! Its was all being used for Misty Hailey's family! Tell me anonymous person, are you part of her family and thats why you made this comment??? There shall not be no mercy on her I guarantee that! she deserves what she gets. Her family should get better jobs so that they can survive and quit living off of Westview! The parent group at westview has even had prboelms with getting people to donate because no one in that !

She took it upon herself to use the school funds to pay for her family's needs and not of the school's or the students or staff! Using the schools funding to buy a wedding dress for HER DAUGHTER IN LAW?? What, Hailey cant afford one for her or anyone else couldnt?? Oh and the daycare... yeah that really pissed me off! The Haley (MIsty Haileys) daughter in law had her son go to the school (was in the same class as my sons) and the lived in Miami, Oklahoma! Misty didnt even have her pay the tuitioin beause it was her grandchild! Wow aint that ridiculous???

DeleteI really hope that Westview gets shut down. It has gotten so much worse since I went there back in 2008. Yes I know thats been long, but they even got an award for excellence. Once Misty Hailey became the principal that changed everything. It makes no sense that I have to pay $9,000 for tuition for my son to go to seneca while Misty Hailey's grandchildren were able to go to Westview even though they lived in Miami, Oklahoma and didnt have to pay that out of district tuition like othere schools ask for?? How could Hailey even think about using the taxpayers money to afford her daughter in laws wedding dress or get a new security system or even pay for the lawn to get mowed when it never happened???!!! Dont get me started on these newer teachers that they hired.. Aren't you supposed to have some kind of certification or degree to teach? They hiring subsiitutes and teachers off the street with NO EDUCATION AT ALL! My youngest son went to the daycare there at westview and it was an entire mess. My son is nonverbal level 3 autistic and sure he had some behaviors, but to keep him in a high chair all day is neglect! Then one day he came home and his sippy cup had a MOLDED clear suction inside of it and when I asked the girls at the daycare where it came from they said it came from my sons cup! No it didnt! We make sure to clean his sippy cup daily ad when we see even a bit of mold or it get stained badly, we throw it out and give him a new one! Also, when I was in school, the middle school party of westview (grades 6-8th grade) had their own hallway set up and had communcation arts, science, math, and world history seperated from each grade! Now they have integrated all three grades together to teach these subjects! How can these kids learn? I personally dont see the teachers even caring for the students' education! All they care about is getting a check. My 3rd grader came home one day and his underwear were soiled in pee because he was told by his teacher to wait until after a video was shown, but by that time it was too late. You dont make a child wait and urinate on themselves ever! The child should be able to use the restroom whenever he/she wants! Again, I really hope that the school get shut down so that my children can get a better education!! Westview is not the school it once was!
