Springfield woman charged with prostitution after Mount Vernon man rejects $100 offer

The Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney's office charged a Springfield woman with prostitution today.

The initial appearance for Amanda Kay Benson (DOB 1988) on the misdemeanor charge is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 20 in Lawrence County Circuit Court.

The case was investigated by the Mount Vernon Police Department.

From the probable cause statement:

The probable cause is as follows: On 06/03/2026 at approximately 20:03 hours I was dispatched to 1000 E Mount Vernon Blvd for tresspassing in progress. Upon arrival I made contact with V1 who stated he was working under his truck when Amanda walked over to him and said "I will f--k you for $100."

V1 declined and called authorities.

Amanda left the scene before I could speak with her. Officer Lutz found her across the street from Sonic. I drove to his location and arrested Amanda. I checked Amanda for proper fit and double locked the handcuffs and transported her to the Lawrence County Jail and transferred custody.

If no money crossed hands, how is this a crime? She offered and he declined. I think the police could use their time more efficiently by finding actual victims and criminals.

We use to call them lot lizards ,not because they looked like lizards but because they went from truck to truck. People shouldn’t be so fast to condemn these ladies.some people are just a single event from being in her situation I had a friend that was a minister in Indiana, he was a member of the guardian angels. He met a lady who was walking the streets and found out she had 2 sons so he took her and her sons into his home he found out through her other ladies that were in the same situations and she said don’t preach at them, don’t judge them ,just offer to help no strings attached her husband had run off with another woman,he was just one of those guys ,but there are women that abandon husbands too .

With all the ways women have to whore and demoralize themselves out today, especially with companies like "Only Fans" and other sites to monetize their actions, trying to make what they do seem as legitimate as they can while constantly using the verbiage, it is crimeless and victimless all the while making money doing it, with it's my body thrown in on top of that to somehow to try and legitimize their moral-less actions showing no-pride, self-worth, or common sense in themselves, while mindless men pay for this crap to continue, which has been going on forever and is fostered by deviates in our society to create actions and try to explain it away as normal behavior by teaching and imparting this on young girls that this is how you need to be to get money, attention, fit-in, peer-understanding, get men or husbands, just leave your morals behind and act and live like the Kardashian's or other mindless hypocrites.

8:38 your message seems to be making fun and implying that these women are doing this for Internet attention. I highly doubt that is what this young woman was doing it for. Most likely the money was for food or bills for children. Women have turned to prostitution since the beginning of time. You can read about it in the bible, and you may also note that Jesus didn’t condemn them or disparage them. Way different than how the “Christian’s” treat them. If there wasn’t a need/desire for them, they wouldn’t be doing it. Demand controls the supply. I personally think it should be legal, massage parlor’s if you will, routine physical’s for sexually transmitted diseases, condom’s provided, taxes paid, with bouncer’s to protect them from harm and kept off the streets. Even child care could be provided to keep children safe when their moms have to work. There is no sin in providing for oneself and their children.

8:33AM, No IDIOT, SEX WORK, is Illegal it is a CRIME. It is sad that people have to stoop to that level in life and sell their body and soul and commit crimes, instead of trying to legitimately work their way out of the hole they have dug for themselves. Part of it is to take responsibility for yourself, stop blaming others, and stop thinking that someone on a white horse or the government is going to ride in and save you, that is your job!

9:14AM, Prostitution in any form is illegal and criminal, least not forget that it is morally and ethically a sin. To say that it should be legal is again pushing women into falling prey to men, money, and potential health and life issues, by fulfilling other's addictions. Would any one push their mothers, daughters, sisters, into a life of prostitution - your body is a temple, not a dumping ground. Some people are just unbelievable and to try to legitimize sleezy behavior which just further sickens our society.

Sin is subjective. That is your judgement call, and a not very Christian judgement call at that.

601, it's impressive how you're able to pack so much wrong into such a small comment lol.
Sin is not subjective, the Bible makes it very clear what is sin.
Him (219) calling out prostitution as morally wrong IS Biblical, it is in fact a very Christian judgement to say that prostitution is wrong. Yes Jesus talked to prostitutes, tax collectors, all kinds of people, but he did NOT condone prostitution or any other sin (914). He preached to them, healed them, saved them, but also made it very clear that you must put away your old sinful life and follow him.
Christians are in fact able to judge with righteous judgement. It's hypocritical judgement that Christians shouldn't partake in, for example if 219 is someone that frequents brothels then he shouldn't be making judgement calls on prostitution.

I need to figure out which version of the bible has the most accurate list of sins. I'm also interested in knowing which bible has the most accurate list of punishments for sinning.

Can I get the answerrs free or do i need to join a church and invest a lot of time and money to get the answers from the preacherman?

926, another fail. Show me one Bible that has a different 10 commandments from another Bible. Show me one Bible that says one specific sin is wrong and another Bible that says that the same sin is actually ok...
      You won't, because you can't.
You're just trying to be an edgy atheist, you don't actually want the answers because you don't want the feeling of accountability, you don't want to know that you're living a sinful life far away from God.
You've clearly never been a member of a Church or have done much reading.

7:38, you packed a lot of wrong into a lot of nonsense.

Sin is subjective, end of story, how? Your sin is not mine. And why are we cherry picking these sins? Lord save us all should a woman want to partake in the world's oldest profession, but we're okay with regularly taking the Lord's name in vain, eating shellfish, ear piercings and tattoos.

Also you're forgetting to judge not, you hypocrite.

I don’t remember seeing anything in the bible saying if you break this commandment, it is less of a sin than to break a different commandment. Isn’t the judgement left to God and not you individual so called Christian’s? Jesus said remove the plank from your own eyes.
