Probable cause: Aurora man attacked girlfriend with hammer

The initial appearance for an Aurora man charged with domestic assault and armed criminal action is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 27, in Lawrence County Circuit Court.

Justin Alan Boyer (DOB 1980) is being held in Lawrence County Jail without bond.

The allegations against Boyer are detailed in the probable cause statement:

On 07/18/2026, I was dispatched to a call regarding a female who had reportedly been assaulted at her residence.

Upon arrival, I made contact with the victim, identified as J.H., who had already been loaded into an ambulance by EMS.

J.H., who was visibly covered in blood, stated that her boyfriend, identified as Justin Alan Boyer, had
assaulted her by striking her in the head with a hammer. She further stated that Boyer appeared
intoxicated and had arrived at their shared residence several hours prior to the assault.

J.H. reported that over the course of those several hours, Boyer repeatedly “kicked” and “stomped”
her several times in the abdomen.

While speaking with J.H., EMS was treating a laceration to the top right side of her head and a black
right eye, consistent with her account of being struck in the head. I also observed bruising to both of
J.H.’s hands, wrists, feet, and ankles, consistent with her statements that she had been kicked, stomped, and struck with a hammer.

6:54 exactly correct. Why wasn’t he also charged with attempted murder? He obviously was trying to kill her if he was hitting her in the head with a hammer. This man needs to be locked up for a very long time.
